Also, in a project filled with “your materials will be really difficult to measure with x technique”, it was great to be told “your samples will be easy to analyse compared to what we’re used to”! (On measuring ferrite content using vibrating sample magnetometry).

@LipmannWalton ...if interested, the larger crystals are created when the pipe is bent. Zinc has a relatively low melting point and corresponding recrystallisation temperature (T.r = ~0.3 of T.m), meaning that the stress introduced during the mechanical deformation is enough to drive growth.

@sh_abhi2k7 Absolutely! Can honestly say I've only ever seen uniform grain sizes on 'flat' or 'straight' structures, like the wiring boxes on lampposts or the legs of street signs... so this really stood out!
