Now all the Humble Pies have run out. Because you rush to issue opinions & think pieces on limited information. When unsure, or unclear, silence is helpful. Observe & wait for time to play its role. You can’t build a nation at this rate #Zambia
The conduct of all four main actors in this election (NRPUP, ECZ, the electorate UPND) has been frankly, embarrassing.
1. NRPUP: The claim that a credible PVT based on ECZ issued Gen 20s, exists that has NRPUP winning comfortably can be reconstructed is one that should be subjected to serious mathematical scrutiny. the underlying documents, CSO coverage and methodology cannot support the claims level of certainty, it's a completely reckless statement. If indeed such exists, you've already made the claim public, publish the data let the public test your statement, which CSO agrees with your finding.we have not even spoken about what looks like coordinate propaganda from NRPUP adjacent online media & personalities, issuing false claim after false claim.
2. ECZ: Independence isn't something an institution should merely ask us to believe. It has to be demonstrated & earned through transparent procedures, credible safeguards and decisions that can withstand public scrutiny. Where people perceive close relationships between commissioners and political actors, the answer shouldn't be “trust me bro” it should be even more transparency and independently verifiable evidence. The commissions nomination process must be codified differently, the president cannot & must not be able to nominate close allies at the very least. You cannot appoint a former party member, to the board of the commission, that in itself is an affront to independence. Let alone one who desired to stand
3. The electorate: We have become far too comfortable treating disagreement as evidence of bad faith or hostility. Political disagreement should not automatically become tribalism, insults or accusations of treason. A functioning democracy requires people to disagree openly & in good faith; in a country where 70% of the country effectively rely on some version "subsistence agriculture" how can you claim all supporters of the NRPUP corruptly benefited from P.F or hope to; how can a whole movement claim that investigation surrounding a former presidents death is evidence of the ruling parties occult culture! incredibly lazy takes from both sides.
4. UPND "tipping the scales??": This is perhaps the area where we need to be particularly careful. A voter can legitimately vote for president and leave the parliamentary ballot blank. But when presidential turnout is substantially higher than parliamentary turnout, and the additional presidential votes appear disproportionately concentrated around the one candidate who has state machinery on their side, dismissing the pattern as mere coincidence is absolutely unsatisfactory. It doesn't prove manipulation but it does shift the burden of proof to the party that in substance run the election. "make it make sense" as close friend would say. Selective prosecution, party members allowed to make open threats; making it difficult for the opposition to campaign. In an election in which the incumbent was an overwhelming favourite. The UPNDs conduct this election cycle is one the president while in opposition would be embarrassed to have. A wife in this moment is looking for her husband, a P.S has corroborated in part worrying claim from the main opposition, were officers in immediate danger when they fired?.. was a former minister hit in the melle?, is he alive?, was he there?? And in time the state must also explain the timing of that event.
One thing you’ll learn from this election is that people’s definition of 'right' and 'wrong' often depends on who they support.
Even their intellectualism is flexible based on who they like.
