Genuinely brought a tear to my eye 🥲
An incredible manifesto of love for this incredible city, thank you @WmSteveHumphrey for kicking off this @portlandmercury series with a beautiful love letter to Portland! 🫶🏾

While we're on the subject of Legislator Pay:
1. Follow the dialogue in Salem happening this session on increasing the salaries of legislators: https://t.co/WiiPjoAC6i

Wonderful column - full of great information about Portland’s emerging Police Oversight body many have probably forgotten they voted for.
Everyday people working hard, working together to make the improvements we need

I was very hopeful for the Florida voting reforms, which had the potential to (re)enfranchise more people than almost any other democracy reform being considered nationwide. Sad to see that potential completely undercut by a governor hostile to voting.

Feeling down about the state of Portland? Next year, we get to elect an entirely new city council. Every current council member could win re-election & they would still be outnumbered by the new 12 person council. Start organizing. This is an unprecedented opportunity.
For decades, Justice Clarence Thomas has secretly accepted luxury trips from a major Republican donor, newly obtained documents and interviews show.
The extent and frequency of these apparent gifts to Thomas has no known precedent in modern SCOTUS history... 🧵👇
A few months back I wrote about the fallout from a private equity firm taking over Dems’ major campaign tech company. If you’re having trouble with NGP VAN tools I want to hear about it! Original stories here https://t.co/bGqbejQNMu
The text of DeSantis' higher education bill has been released. It's as terrifying as the press release suggested it would be. Florida HB 999 would enact the most draconian and censorious restrictions on higher education in the history of this country. https://t.co/mTsNuSryt4
A Kansas City Fed report released today finds that corporate price markups accounted for over half of 2021's inflation. Markups grew by 3.4%, amounting to 58% of total inflation. The same year, U.S. corporate profits surged to their highest level since 1950.
Why do the rich keep getting richer, while everyday Oregonians are left behind? Because they rake in fortunes on capital gains - their money makes money.
The kicker? These fortunes are taxed at LOWER federal rates than income earned by the working class through actual labor.
Reading over this list of Commissioner Hardesty’s accomplishments during an extremely difficult four years demonstrates how incredibly effective she has been at making big picture changes. Going to miss her passion, values, and energy on City Council.
Today was my final in person Council meeting before my term as Commissioner ends.
It was an emotional day as I reflected on 4 years of hard work during an exceptionally difficult period in our history.
Serving on the Portland City Council has been an incredible honor.
