The Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF) today successfully handed over a newly built home to Ugogo Joyce Mjaji (74) and her family, following a fire that destroyed their house in December 2025.
The handover, attended by MEC Faith Mazibuko, marks a new beginning for the family. The two-bedroom home is fully furnished and equipped with electricity and running water.
This milestone restores dignity and offers the family a chance to rebuild their lives. #DSD #CMF #Housing #onebrickatatime #collenmashawanafoundation
Had a truly heartwarming evening sharing a meal with Gogo Mjaji and her wonderful family in Duduza. After the devastating fire in December 2025 that left them without a home or belongings, itโs incredibly uplifting to see hope restored. This Easter, theyโll be celebrating in a brand new home. Grateful to CMF for making this possible. ๐

The State of Palestine joins South Africa in commemorating Human Rights Day and remembering the Sharpeville Massacre of 1960.
Today, we are reminded that dignity, justice, and freedom must be fought for, protected, and made real for all people.
Today, 16 March 2026, the team from the Collen Mashawana Foundation visited 74-year-old Ugogo Joyce Mjaji at her home in Duduza, where she lives with her family of ten, including her five unemployed children and five grandchildren.
The familyโs home was severely damaged in a fire on the evening of 14 December 2025. Ugogo Joyce had been alone at the time and was lighting a candle for light when the fire started and spread throughout the house.
The blaze destroyed many of the familyโs belongings and caused extensive damage to the RDP house, affecting two bedrooms as well as the kitchen and toilet. Since the incident, the family has been living in difficult conditions and has been forced to sleep on the floor.
Despite the hardship, members of the community showed compassion by donating some essential items and assisting with replacing a few windows to help the family cope.
Following todayโs visit, CMF has committed to assisting the family by rebuilding their home and restoring dignified living conditions for Ugogo Joyce and her family.
