Read about the Palaeogene geological evolution of the Hampshire Basin in my latest article published in Geology Today last week!

The Latest Danian Event (LDE) occurred 62 million years ago and was the first in the series of hyperthermal events that punctuated this time interval - the most famous of which is the PETM.
🚨New paper on abrupt carbon release & calcification feedbacks!🚨
Led by MSc student Margareta Harbich & @James_SK_Barnet, we show the first Cenozoic hyperthermal was associated with warming, acidification, and a surprising feedback in key calcifiers…🐚🧵https://t.co/BRWhgPGbHF
Excited to share this new record of deep ocean temperatures over the last ~60 Million years! Using the clumping of carbon and oxygen isotopes in ancient shells we show that peak Cenozoic deep sea temperatures were warmer (~20 C!) and more dynamic than previously thought 🧵
Spent the Christmas break redrew the Carboniferous Scotland/Northsea palaeogeographies creating 3 time slices, Tournaisian, Asbian and Kinderscoutian using realworld hydrology engines and fractals to create a more ‘photo realistic’ palaeogeography.

The past is the key to our uncertain future... Check out this short YouTube video made by one of my recent Masters students based on our research at @univofstandrews@EarthSciStA@STAiGLab
What geological lessons can we take from an 'End Cretaceous Climate Crisis' ~66 million years ago to understand the consequences we would face if we allow the world to warm by +4°C as some extreme emission scenarios predict?

@Matt_Geophys@AcademicChatter I remember those days well...take some important breaks where you think about something else completely and clear your mind. Thoughts can stagnate if you think about them too long!
Delighted to see this review published in Geoscientist last week. The New Forest is teeming with tourists at the moment...I wonder how many are on a fossil hunt?! @crowoodpress@TheNewForestUK@NewForestNPA https://t.co/27FwNzdRV5
@HafsaBobat There are also others...the chalk around St Catherine’s Point and Lower Greensand Group around Atherfield Point are also fossiliferous. These places are described somewhat in my book :)
Our new paper on paleo CO2 is now out!

We compile and reevaluate boron isotope & alkenone data, finding a striking correspondence between atmospheric CO2 & global climate for the past 66 million years (THREAD)
It may feel warm outside today but not as warm as it would have felt across southern Britain 40 million years ago during the Eocene...
Learn about changing environments of the past and the fossil evidence in my book! @TheNewForestUK@NewForestNPA@RingwoodGeology@OceanEarthUoS
