Bringing some wild back to the landscape and back into people's lives too. Views, inevitably, my own.
After a 150 year absence, we have successfully reintroduced pine martens to #Dartmoor! This is the moment that one of the #PineMartens left its release pen, ready to explore Devon's woodlands.

@PeteMRCooper I was at what I think was the first #BigPictureConference a few years ago, and I was really impressed then. Glad to see it's growing! Perhaps I'll have to pop up again next year.
We've got some big challenges to face, and if we can't get over some longer grass, I don't hold out much hope. Engagement is key in projects like this (and maybe don't call it rewilding).

It's a glorious evening in Monmouthshire ahead of my talk tonight. I'll have to throw a few more jokes in if I'm to stand a chance of keeping folk indoors.
Happy #WorldRewildingDay! 🌿

Working on one species is nice and all. You get to deep dive on every aspect of their world and really get to know them. But the number of emails I receive simply entitled "Pine martens" does present some organisational challenges.
I know you shouldn't have favourites but the pine marten is certainly up there. Its recovery from almost becoming extinct after years of persecution gives me immense hope for a richer ecological future. Full story from @ScotlandTBP https://t.co/u91uUUa6Qe #WildlifeComeback
Lots of froggy activity in the pond as they continue preparations for what promises to be an army of tadpoles. The ever-growing spawn clump now measures roughly 75x37cm.

I've been lucky enough to bump into boar when I'm out in the Forest of Dean, so it was a real pleasure to be invited to the launch of @CSLyons exciting new book, right in the heart of one of the few places in Britain that these beasts still call home.
The trees are still bare, but the forest isn't so quiet today. There's a blackbird singing and snowdrops are breaking ground, and just the slightest whiff of Spring in the air. Slowly but surely, the woods are waking up.
In a month's time, @chiffchat (Bloomsbury) will publish my debut 'Groundbreakers: The Return of Britain's #WildBoar' – and I'm totally thrilled to share the cover with you!
Now, to tell you a little more about the book... 1/6
@RobThomas14 @SkylarkHolly Roads aren't too bad approaching Ham Wall from the Shapwick village direction. Or at least they weren't on Sunday when I last ventured over there.
A #rewilding boost helps bring more than two turtle doves 🕊️ This iconic species declined by 97% since 1994.
@KneppWilding went from none to hosting one of the largest populations of nesting doves in England, by allowing its scrubby, 'messy' mosaic of habitats to recover.
Why is the choice posed always food versus Nature? People can’t eat grass, yet we have about 125,000 hectares under golf courses. Generally don’t eat horses, but we spare about 500,000 hectares to feed them. For scale, Birmingham is about 26,000 hectares.
