✨🍃 Finished my forest environment!! 🍃✨
It was a blast working on this project for my thesis; I learned a bunch of new techniques and finally dabbled in foliage; now, on to the next project! 🫡

Please don't do this for indie developers you love! The majority of indies have completely run out of budget by the time they hit launch.
Supporting them when the game first releases is the only way you're going to get those QOL patches and post-launch content.
I kinda miss studying game art because for my job I don’t make anything beyond low poly pixel art / 2D, so I have little reason to sculpt, create shaders, or anything super cool
Maybe I should start doing personal projects again
This is why it’s important that people discuss and report on gamedev accurately.
This attitude right here.
Great directors have great teams. The exceptional people that drive tech and art to achieve great directors visions are not ‘wagies’.
@k04sk There’s that quote from Dead Poet’s Society that really stuck with me regarding this.
“medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
Being married to a rare disease scientist ( focusing on one’s that affect children specifically ) I used to think what we did as artists wasn’t really important nor did it really matter in the grand scheme of things . And there is some truth to it ( to some degree ) 🧵
@guylygon for rest areas, personally I use the 70-30% rule most of the time. The idea is that 30% percent is filled with the main focus and details, and the remaining 70 percent is rest area, meaning surfaces with very low to none eye catching detail. Details are thoughtfully placed.
There's no right way to sculpt stylized, there's just different "right ways". You can have different looks from game to game. There is, however clearly right principles to know (edge thickness, rest areas, implied details etc) Ignoring all of them could lead to the "wrong way".
