It's often said: White kids, upon being taught the history of racism, will feel guilty or bad about being White. In fact, White kids who receive antiracist history lessons exhibit fewer racist ideas about Black people while their attitudes about White people are unaffected.
This weekend 65 years ago #AltheaGibson, the first Black woman to win @Wimbledon, retained her title.
Althea repeatedly applied for membership of the #AllEnglandClub but, unlike other winners, was never accepted. Her Jewish doubles partner #AngelaBuxton faced a similar struggle
Hon Jean Augustine and Zanana Akande speaking downtown Toronto about the plight of refugees from the continent of Africa. “These are my people …I will not rest until they get equity” -Zanana Akande
We must resist the Black/White binary. Other groups from different parts of the world have come to Canada to seek refuge and have not been left on the streets in the rain. Only Black people from the continent of Africa have been left on the streets
Allowing racialised refugees to sleep on the streets of Toronto is also about sending a message to vulnerable people thinking about fleeing their oppressors. Don't come to Canada unless you are a white European refugee or have a skill this nation needs. #cdnpoli
Having some lived experience of racism is not the same as having anti-oppression analysis. One may at best help clarify the other. Too often, the two get conflated and you end up with folks in DEI or DEI-like positions navigating delicate situations without a focus on justice.
Every few weeks, a new survey, report or article states what we’ve known for years: racism exists in Canada.

This is exactly it. Toronto is not the only municipality where refugee claimants and asylum seekers are left stranded. Clearly, the federal government is not upholding their #humanrights commitments; they must be held to account for underfunding shelter and supports for people.
Act Now! African, Refugee and Civil Society Groups in Toronto call on @JustinTrudeau@SeanFraserMP to urgently establish reception centers to welcome, shelter and support refugee claimants on Toronto streets https://t.co/Um3dbxg17w
Let’s show the same compassion and support to refugee claimants on Toronto streets that we have shown other displaced people arriving in Canada. @JustinTrudeau@SeanFraserMP we need emergency shelter and housing now! https://t.co/Um3dbxg17w @RCHC_Centre
The @enercare saga continues...after a 30 minute wait, on the line with the call centre to check on the status of my service visit. They escalated my call to a supervisor ...transferred the call...and the call disconnected! #dobetter#CustomerService.
House temperature is now a dangerous 7 degrees and have experienced this 4x in the past 7 days. House is uninhabitable. Pipes at risk of freezing and bursting. This is unacceptable. We need a solution NOW. #customerservice#weather
@Enercare No heat or hot water since Saturday for the 4th time in 7 days with a NEWLY purchased furnace! 90 minute wait times on the phone to get through to schedule a repair. Ive been told 3x in 30 hrs that my case has been escallated & would receive a call back. No one called.
