This is a travesty and a nightmare. The US was a founder of @Gavi. It lowers vaccine costs for the world, has vaccinated 1B children, and averted 19M deaths. This pull out will cost 100s of thousands of children's lives a year -- and RFK Jr will be personally responsible.
Stephen Colbert: Mike Johnson and Russ Vought have said no one is going to lose their Medicaid. Is that something you would describe with the word true?
NC Gov. Josh Stein: Untrue. I would use true, but I would add "un" in front of it. They're talking about cutting $700 billion out of Medicaid—you cannot take that kind of money out of the system without people losing coverage.
Right now, Republicans in Congress are trying to push through a bill that would put millions of Americans at risk of losing their health care.
They want to cut federal funding for Medicaid, take away tax credits that help more people afford coverage, and raise costs for working class families.
Lawmakers don’t have to actually read the bill to vote on it, right?? 👀
With the changes only public for a couple of hours, House Republicans are pushing forward with a vote anyways.
Through backroom deals in the cover of darkness, the just-released managers amendment makes clear that this bill has changed for the worse, terminating more Americans’ health care coverage even more quickly.
@RepBresnahan@RepDavidValadao@RepNicole .@RepDonBacon said he won’t support more than $500 billion in Medicaid cuts. This bill is even worse, cutting $700 billion+ from Medicaid, ripping care away from millions.
This bill crosses his red line. We urge him to stand by his word and vote no.
18 state-based marketplaces just sent a pretty blistering letter to House leadership about just how damaging the ACA policies in the reconciliation bill — which drive almost a quarter of estimated coverage losses, before accounting for expiration of enhanced subsidies — would be.
To point out the obvious, slashing over $600B from Medicaid and $300B from SNAP could not be further from "preserving those programs for Americans truly in need."
Millions of Americans in need would be without health care and enough food on the table under this bill.
Certain Members have been making promises to “protect Medicaid” for months. Today they have the chance to actually do it. Protecting Medicaid doesn’t just mean not making a terrible bill even worse. It means following through on your promises in the moments that count the most.
The House is trying to vote as soon as today on their budget bill. Several members who declared they wouldn’t cut Medicaid have now gone quiet as their ‘walk-the-plank’ moment approaches.
Forget what you promised? Don’t worry. We have receipts. 🧵🧾

Official CBO analysis confirms the obvious: House Republican tax and budget bill isn't shared sacrifice.
It makes poor people poorer and rich people richer. It does this by cutting health care & nutrition to help finance tax cuts skewed to the wealthy.
NEW - house GOP pushing more aggressive timeline for work requirements in budget bill - States don’t have the resources, infrastructure or capacity to stand up work requirements in Medicaid period, let alone in 1 year.
Looking for waste, fraud & abuse? Big corporations are gaming the system within Medicare Advantage, pocketing up to $140B from taxpayers each year. @AOC introduced an amendment, the No UPCODE Act, to stop corporations from abusing taxpayer funds for their own gain. Rs voted no.
This morning, @HouseCommerce is voting to “defund” Planned Parenthood (@PPFA) — our largest provider of reproductive health care like cancer screenings & STI tests. It won’t save a dime. It will hurt millions of patients—and increase the deficit.
This is not something you do for a piece of legislation you are proud of.
Keep pushing back. They keep moving the timeline to pass and implement these ridiculous, irresponsible cuts.
.@RepAOC brings the receipts: Rural hospitals across Republicans' districts—@RepLangworthy, @JayObernolte, & @repgabeevans—will be at risk of CLOSURE if their Medicaid cuts go through.
Medicaid matters.
These are some of the people whose health care is threatened by @HouseCommerce Republicans, who want to gut Medicaid so they can give billionaires giant tax breaks.
New Jerseyans did NOT vote for cuts to Medicaid, yet E&C Committee member @CongressmanKean is currently working on a budget plan that will rip away health coverage for more than 73,000 people in his district. Is this your rep? Call 866-426-2631 and tell him to VOTE NO.
