I have set the intro price of my new e-book Dyslexia Cured at $2.99. It contains a wealth of information about how I helped my son transform from severely dyslexic into an outstanding & proficient reader. https://t.co/YlKiJ3aIR2
@p_kuperman To move from Gr 4 math to Gr 5, does your son need to complete Math Academy 4th grade or are there other routes to Gr 5 math? And could you say more about what Fast Math is? Is it only available within Alpha?
@rastokke Sorry for using the term tracking when I really meant ability grouping. I'd love to hear you explore with John Mighton how to keep a whole class in the 85% zone without letting some of the kids move along to algebra & geometry years earlier than others. (PS: I'm Canadian too.)
@mbateman I meant the regular math part. How are topics presented/paced and how complex is it? More like Khan, Beast, IXL, Math Academy, etc.? And is it mainly adaptive sequencing, or true AI that responds differently to different kids’ misunderstandings?
@sarah_cone Does she write (form numbers and letters) neatly with ease? If writing is cumbersome or labourious, it can help to isolate this skill from math and not try to push the two simultaneously at this stage. Can you post an example of her written math?
@ToddTruitt76508@mathillustrated Something that does not quite make sense in this story: if you gave a Pre-calc exam to a typical 8-year-old and let them retake it a few times, they would NEVER get 100%. So how did high school kids who lacked elementary and middle school skills get A's in pre-calc by retesting?
The single greatest flaw in K-12 math education is the focus on word problems that depend on math that the students (and sometimes teachers) have not yet mastered. 1/2
@WayneVaughan@sahil4ai@teachthemx3 That does sound disheartening. Was every child required to master every Common Core math standard for their grade? The CC Standards (the full set) are not aligned with the cognitive development of most kids so I don't see how this could work, especially in just 20 mins a day.
@WayneVaughan@sahil4ai@teachthemx3 I thought the guides were there to help motivate the kids but not to teach the academic subjects. Do you mean the parents help explain the concepts at home if the work doesn't get finished in 2 hours at school?
@mackenzieprice Do you mean the student must complete all the 5th-grade Math Academy "assignments"? And then get a raw score of 90% or more on the Texas 5th-grade STAAR test (which would be a breeze compared to Math Academy!)?
