2/2 My mother always said she knew where I was when the house was quiet. I was in an armchair, reading. Children devour knowledge but, despite what many would have you believe, by reading more, they develop critical skills. Reading doesn’t brainwash you. It liberates you.
For me, libraries are sacred spaces. I borrowed weekly in Dún Laoghaire. I’d say school was about 40% of my education. The rest was split between a set of encyclopaedias my folks paid off on tick (I still have them 😌) and books about art, architecture, movies, and so on. 1/2
It meant SO much to me to win the Waterford Poetry Prize in 2020. ♥️ It’s one of the few remaining competitions with no entry fee and it’s beyond worth entering 🫶 Judged by the brill @Colm_Keegan 🔥

I was so perturbed hearing about the treatment of @DisabilityFed campaigner Carolyn Akintola as she travelled to Brussels to represent people with disabilities, I had to bring it to the chamber floor yesterday evening.
