@albieamankona Incorrect. National insurance paid to a specified level per tax year counts as a qualifying year towards your basic state pension. Anything over and above that ( which you are still required to pay) may be allocated otherwise.

@miriam_cates National insurance is like any other insurance policy: if you pay in you can expect to receive the benefits it promises. To make it means tested would mean altering the terms under which you contribute. If you can opt out then fair enough, but we (60+) did not have that choice.
