“In the Mayilathamadu Madhavanai area, encroachers shot this cow last night. They didn’t come here to the Batticaloa district because they were landless but were sent by the Mahaweli Authority to destroy the livelihood of the farmers. The Mahaweli sent them saying, ‘We will fool the farmers with another story but you go destroy their livelihood with a gun.’ The Mahaweli knows all the problems of the farmers very well.”
