Urgent attention 🚨
A 27-year-old Nigerian, Clement, has reportedly been detained for over a week at the Octopus Police Unit, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over an alleged ₦43 million theft linked to his workplace.
Disturbingly, officers allegedly denied having him in custody initially and failed to properly document his arrest. His phones have been seized, communication restricted, and access to him reportedly made conditional.
Despite being held for more than a week, he has neither been formally charged nor brought before a court.
This raises serious concerns about violations of his constitutional rights, which require that any arrested person be charged within a reasonable time. Even more troubling are reports that officers and his employer have suggested he and others could be held indefinitely, without a clear investigation or any hope of release an unacceptable situation in any lawful society.
We call on the @PoliceNG, PPRO Rivers State Police Command @AgabeBlessing@Grace_Iringe, and the I.G.P @TunjiDisu1 to urgently investigate this matter, ensure due process is followed, and uphold the rule of law.
This young man reportedly has no one advocating for him and is at risk of being caught in a situation where both the police and his employer determine his detention and punishment without due process.
Please help Nigerians!!!
