Ghana and Cameroon Turn to Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery, Boosting African Corporations
Ghana and Cameroon have moved to source petroleum products and financing, respectively, from Nigeria's Dangote Refinery, reflecting a shift in how African countries manage energy supply and industrial partnerships.
For decades, many African nations exported crude oil while relying on distant international markets for refined fuel, often at higher costs. The new arrangements keep more processing, trade, and value within the continent.
The refinery’s growing role as a regional supplier highlights Africa’s expanding refining capacity and its ability to serve neighbouring markets at scale. By engaging with Nigeria, both countries aim to strengthen bilateral trade, reduce exposure to global supply disruptions, and deepen regional economic links.
The move also aligns with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which encourages intra-African trade and greater economic integration across the continent.
Well said, Robert.
No mining.
No minerals.
No technology.
No infrastructure.
No modern life.
The world is waking up to the importance of mining and why it powers our world forward. @robert_ivanhoe
I mentioned last week that I was aware that governments were looking into stockpiling critical minerals... Less than a week later, the US and China announced their intentions to ramp up stockpiling.
Do the EU, Canada, India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia... also plan to step in soon?
