Auburn did this dance on UGA a decade after the 2007 Blackout then UGA beat them 28-7 in the SEC Championship like 3 weeks later, made its first CFP and won the Rose Bowl. Auburn hasn’t beaten them since.
That series was one of the tightest in the SEC for decades, but Georgia has now recorded a win over Auburn in 12 straight seasons. It honestly boggles the mind a little bit.
Georgia's Michael O'Shaughnessy hits the 11th homer of the game to give Georgia a wild 13-12 win after trailing 7-0!
Georgia is only the 2nd team to overcome a deficit of 7+ runs to win a Super Regional game (Oregon overcame an 8-run deficit in 2023).
I’ve told this story before, but it’s a good time to share it again. Terry Pendleton told me he was standing at the batting cage with Andruw Jones once when we were in San Francisco, and Willie Mays walked up to them and said to Andruw, “You’re the best center fielder I’ve seen.”
Georgia won 29 straight games, lost by 3 on a bad call to Bama in the SEC title, got dropped from 1 to 6, and instead of bitching and moaning about refs and committees they went and laid a 63-3 beat down on FSU in a game where all of their healthy draftable players played
Look where UGA is now and tell me it didn’t matter. How you do anything is how you do everything. If your core program traits only matter when things go your way then they don’t actually matter. Notre Dame just told their players it’s okay to quit when things don’t go your way. I think it will have negative consequences on the immediate future of the program
A newsy wrinkle from Bevacqua: As part of an MOU signed last spring, Notre Dame is assured of a CFP berth if it is ranked in the top 12 starting next year.
If this year’s situation unfolds next year, the final at-large team (Miami) would have gotten bumped for No. 11 Notre Dame.
