12 months ago, the company I founded, Audience Republic, was acquired by a US private equity backed company...
After 10 years building the company, raising over $10M from investors, hiring 100+ people, reaching 65M users, and powering events featuring artists like Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, it's time for the next chapter.
I've officially left Audience Republic and am building something new.
It's called @NeumaOS.
Looking forward to sharing more soon.
Some great advice here. After hiring 100+ people, my learning is that when someone doesn’t work out, often (but not always) it comes back to a poor hiring process or poor leadership/management.
A couple of things that worked well for me:
Hiring Process - Who: The A Method for Hiring by Geoff Smart, was a great resource here. Hiring well is the #1 lever, but much easier said than done.
Role Success Guide - A 1-2 pager covering their specific role mission, their 5 core responsibilities, the company’s 5 core values and what “good” looks like for that specific role. Clear targets, scorecard metrics and quarterly deliverables.
Vision 1 Pager - Similar to the VTO in EOS, so the vision and goals of the company are clear, along with how their role contributes to them.
Then review the Role Success Guide with the direct report every month or two in regular 1/1s, and get them to assess for themselves first.
That way, if a performance issue does arise, there is self accountability built in and it's an easier conversation.
