NEWS: The D.C. Council just voted to fund and implement the semi-open primaries portion of Initiative 83, which also brought ranked-choice voting to D.C.
That means that in 2028 independent voters will be able to choose whether to vote in a partisan primary election.
I've joined @Jared_Gans and the team at Morning Report to help write The Hill's flagship AM newsletter.
Today, we talked to GOP strategists, who told us why Trump's "I love the inflation" comment will be a "doozy" for Republicans ahead of the midterms.

In this week’s edition of On The Ballot, @Jared_Gans dives into why Democrats are feeling bullish about Rep. Kean’s race this cycle, while I walk you through how ranked-choice voting could play out in some of Maine’s contested primaries next week.
Plus, @BCRobinsonGA shares what’s fueling him on the campaign trail (how does one choose between chips, Doritos and Rolos?)

May 5: Trump-backed challengers defeat 5 IN Senators.
May 16: Bill Cassidy loses to Trump endorsee.
May 19: Thomas Massie loses to Trump endorsee.
May 26: John Cornyn loses to Trump endorsee.
Trump’s influence in GOP primaries remains as strong, if not stronger, than ever.
NEWS: Sen. Bill Cassidy says he called Julia Letlow and John Fleming to congratulate them on tonight’s results.
“This was not the result that I necessarily wanted, but I feel great,” he tells the room of supporters in Baton Rouge.
The risks for Boebert were low.
Trump is calling for a primary challenger, but the filing deadline for candidates in her June 30 primary was back in March.
There are no other Republicans on her primary ballot.
Wow: Hours after Boebert campaigned for Massie in Kentucky, President Trump is floating a primary challenge to her.
“Even though I long ago endorsed Boebert, if the right person came along, it would be my Honor to withdraw that Endorsement, and endorse a good and proper alternative.“
Speaking to reporters this afternoon, Cassidy said the White House has known for “a while” that Means didn’t have the votes to advance
He appeared confident about his primary, which will happen as scheduled on May 16, despite the House races getting postponed
A narrower decision than was possible. The Court does not strike down Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act as unconstitutional, though Elena Kagan describes it as a “demolition.”
Scoop in @thehill: the Taxpayers Protection Alliance Foundation has filed an amicus brief in support of Anthropic's lawsuit against the Trump admin.
"The foundation’s brief makes it a relatively rare conservative group weighing in on Anthropic’s side."

Kristi Noem is considering a primary challenge to Sen. Mike Rounds (R) in South Dakota. That'd be an exit ramp in the face of being forced out of the Cabinet.
In 2020, Rounds won his primary 75%-25% vs a candidate running to his right. But Noem would be a tougher opponent.
President Trump says he will be making his endorsement in the Texas GOP Senate runoff “soon” and will be asking the candidate he does not endorse “to immediately drop out of the race.”
Something fun: one of the only polls to have Cornyn ahead of Paxton was the last UT Tyler poll, which found Cornyn ahead, 41-35, with Hunt at 15.
Their Democratic numbers? Crockett 55 - Talarico 37
Polling, not for the faint of heart!
