VLBW babies are born from 24 weeks with immature development of the organs and are prone to a whole array of pathophysiological problems, potentially resulting neonatal mortality and morbidity.
Neonatologists have developed advanced techniques in the early development and treatment but it is still a precarious field of medical science. The onus of any maltreatment should lie within the arena of the neonatologists who are responsible for diagnosis, immediate resuscitative intervention, treatment and management protocols.
