Preprint! Bamboo lemurs are weirdos w/ intensely restricted diets, hence name. Led by Morgan Chaney, we found this narrow diet led to loss of many cytochrome P450 genes that detoxify plant toxins--they only need the ones for bamboo toxins, theory goes. https://t.co/cGCoVzutIV

@huw_groucutt …that the megafauna actually suffered. This makes sense considering population sizes with agricultural are probably an order of magnitude greater at least.
@huw_groucutt Madagascar was the one that looked very clear, with humans arriving and wiping out every large animal in about 1000 years. However the timeline of Madagascar keeps getting pushed back and it seems hunter gathers probably lived with megafauna, and it wasn’t until agriculture…
Pioneer. Visionary. Invincible.
We have today unveiled a statue of Arsène Wenger outside Emirates Stadium to celebrate his incredible impact at the club ❤️
@razibkhan I’m working class background, high school drop out who worked many labor jobs prior to going back to school. It took me until I was 33 years old to make as much money as an academic as I made as a carpenter at 20. If I factor in inflation it’s even longer.
I recently published a book on the effects of the NYC water system on 2 watershed towns. Today I am giving book talks in both towns, on opposite sides of Hudson River. Archaeology in, with, & for the communities of Olive & Kent, NY. https://t.co/YktfZBCjxw
My department is hiring 3(!?) new forensic science lecturers. The net is being cast very wide, so don't be put off if you're an expert in a niche area.
I hear that @milgeol (forensic science program director) is happy to chat with anyone interested.
