Aston Villa’s appeal to register January signing Brian Madjo has been accepted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The new ruling means Madjo can play in the club’s matches and soon make his first competitive appearances for Villa, having featured in pre-season.

Since signing from Metz six months ago, Madjo is yet to make an appearance in any of Villa’s teams after FIFA rejected his registration on the grounds that the teenager was joining from an overseas club and was under 18, which, under Article 19 of the world governing body’s regulations, prohibits international transfers of players in that age bracket.

This is despite Madjo being born in England and to Cameroonian parents.

Whether it is or isn’t a red to Balogun is now irrelevant. Government interference is a violation of FIFA Article 2 & 15, and the punishment is disqualification and suspension. #FIFAWorldCup
