🗽 New York City recorded its lowest number of murders and shootings for the first five months of a year on record, according to new NYPD data reported by the New York Daily News, with Mayor Zohran Mamdani now in office.
Police say 102 murders were recorded through the end of May, down nearly 21% from the same period last year and below the previous record low of 113 set in 2014 and 2017. Overall major crime fell 10.6% citywide and more than 6% in the subway system.
The figures come after critics repeatedly suggested Mamdani’s progressive politics would lead to a rise in crime. The NYPD attributed the declines to its data-driven policing strategy, including the department’s Summer Violence Reduction Plan.
CNN: Platner’s campaign just announced raising over $200,000 in a single day following the New York Times article — their best fundraising day since Janet Mills dropped out of the Maine Senate race
The NYT said that @lyndseyfifield has been out of politics and isn’t doing anything with the conservative dark money group Independent Women’s Forum anymore but here she is getting quoted at a Republican congressional event in mid-April of 2026, a few weeks ago, with IWF as her ID
🇺🇸 Rep. Mike Lawler says that if Democratic House candidate Dr. Adam Hamawy is elected in November, he will “demand a full congressional investigation into his connections and any links to terrorist organizations.”

New Abdul El-Sayed internal poll by Tulchin Research shared with me finds El-Sayed widely ahead.
El-Sayed: 41%
Stevens: 23%
McMorrow: 18%
In terms of the scale of this lead, the poll is an outlier, but directionally, it is in line with other surveys showing El-Sayed surging ever since Third Way made Israel-Palestine a major issue in the race.
Poll finds Stevens edging out McMorrow for second, with the August 4 primary approaching.
Take any individual poll with a grain of salt, particularly an internal, but Tulchin Research is legit and the trend line is consistent.
Poll was commissioned by a newly formed progressive coalition that'll be backing El-Sayed, helmed by Hannah Fertig (Bernie/JD) and Connor Farrell (longtime Michigan operative).
My latest alongside my @Newsweek colleague @johnsfeng: How China could help solve Trump's Iran nuclear problem
Trump acknowledged Beijing's capability to handle Iranian enriched uranium. It would be a high-stakes bet for Xi, but the payoff is substantial.

NEW: Long shot Democrat efforts for Supreme Court term limits are gaining momentum.
Ro Khanna referred @Newsweek to a Fox News poll showing 78 percent of voters supported 18-year term limits for the justices.
"We should bring my bill to the floor for a vote. This Court has lost all moral authority," he said.
In May a Democratic resolution for constitutional amendment was introduced. Meanwhile a separate legislative push has steadily gained cosponsors.

U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner is asking Democratic voters to send him to Congress despite a Nazi-associated tattoo, years of offensive social media posts, and a sexting scandal. So far, they appear willing to do it. My latest for @Newsweek

WSJ: Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who also attended the meeting, followed up and said there is a big difference between marital issues and allegations of sexual assault, the people said.
Platner agreed and denied any credible allegations of assault were forthcoming.
“It’s not a secret I’ve had a messy, complicated life,” Platner told the senators, one of the people said. “The worst of the rumors we’ve all heard are not true.”
