The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.

The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.

Access to all other Claude models is not affected.

If someone could travel back to the 1990s carrying nothing more than a modern AI model on a relatively simple device, they wouldn’t need advanced weapons, vast wealth, or futuristic machinery. The AI alone would be enough to predict trends, identify opportunities, accelerate research, optimize investments, and make decisions with a level of insight that would seem almost impossible for that era.

What we call convenience today would have looked like a superpower just 25 years ago.

What’s even more fascinating is the compounding effect. Every breakthrough would create new breakthroughs. Every advantage would generate more advantages. The acceleration would become exponential.

That leads me to wonder: if today’s AI feels revolutionary compared to the recent past, what might intelligence look like 100, 1,000, or even 10,000 years into the future?

And if a sufficiently advanced intelligence can dramatically reshape a civilization’s trajectory, perhaps the real question isn’t whether advanced beings influenced humanity in the distant past…

It’s whether we’re witnessing the very first stages of that process happening right now.
