If passed - partisan elections would mean candidates would have to pick a party, then go through a partisan primary before the main election.

Garon Killian - the first suspect arrested following the mass shooting in Hickory is in court in Caldwell County for his first appearance.

The DAs office is asking for no bond to be granted based on previous cases. Killian was previously facing 7 charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon With the Intent To Kill for an April 6 shooting. /2
Secured bond set at $200,000.
This means he can bond out of jail.
In his previous case he was given a $50,000 bond and bonded out. He was on pre-trial release for that case when he was arrested for the mass shooting.

This actually started with a foot chase that we witnessed outside the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.
The Mecklenburg County Sheriff Confirmed that they were not aware this arrest was happening.

At approximately 6:16 a.m., Charlotte Fire began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the sound of an explosion in the 1600 block of Lambardy Circle. Engine 2 arrived on scene at 6:18 a.m. to find a single-story residence fully involved in fire.
Due to the extent of structural damage, a primary search of the residence could not be conducted. One individual from a nearby home was evaluated on scene by Medic but was not transported.
A second alarm was requested at 6:33 a.m. to bring additional resources to the scene. Charlotte Fire’s Hazardous Materials Team worked diligently to control active gas leaks.
Firefighters operated in extremely hazardous conditions, navigating structural instability, active fire, and gas leaks while working to bring the incident under control.
The cause of the explosion and fire remains under investigation.
Monroe City Council is expected to discuss the definition of “adult entertainment” in regards to city policies.
The Staff report says it’s in part to:
“to provide clear enforcement mechanisms to prevent:
• Drag shows and other performances deemed adult-oriented in settings where minors may be present.”
There is a packed house plus overflow room filled with supporters on different sides of the discussion.

Monroe City Council is discussing the possibility of removing the City’s DEI committee.
The committee was started in 2021 and in a Staff report (look below) the City says they must remove the committee to stay in compliance with federal mandates.

@WBTV_News Council member Surluta Anthony motioned that the City hold off dissolving the DEI committee at the moment. They will revisit if the State passes a law mandating the removal of DEI or if the Federal funding is in jeopardy.
