Child care has long been unaffordable in the U.S.—but families are feeling the squeeze now more than ever. With ARPA stabilization funds now expired, providers have been forced to raise their tuition fees to stay open.

NEW: The NLRB could soon make it much easier for workers to unionize.
The board plans to re-establish “Joy Silk,” forcing employers to recognize and bargain with any union supported by a majority of workers. Unions wouldn’t need to win formal elections.
@GreenhouseNYT explains.
Today's Supreme Court decision on race-conscious affirmative action denies decades of evidence showing that systemic racism puts students of color at a disadvantage. It's detached from reality, short-sighted, and wrong. /1 https://t.co/8gJRYtl6bJ
“With let-them-eat-cake obliviousness, today, the majority pulls the ripcord and announces "colorblindness for all' by legal fiat. But deeming race irrelevant in law does not make it so in life.” - Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
👀 Ketanji Brown Jackson has a two-part footnote on Clarence Thomas.
She says he "responds to a dissent I did not write... demonstrates an obsession with race consciousness that far outstrips my or UNC’s... ignites too many more straw men to list, or fully extinguish, here."
"If it is almost impossible to envision the same sort of collaboration between labor and business interests today, it is because that commonality has vanished in a world defined by toxic stratification."

With temperatures in Texas soaring above 110 degrees, the state’s GOP lawmakers show utter contempt for workers and worker safety by overturning city laws that require water breaks for workers. https://t.co/0xMMiQeDSR
“Society has deemed parents who test positive for substances as unable, or maybe even unworthy, to parent.” Because of this approach, these families will always be at risk of separation. @C_Hinds_ argues that what families need is support, not separation.

Bilingualism has cognitive, academic, social, and economic advantages. Check out this new report from @ConorPWilliams @ZabalaTCF on how to translate that into better ed policy for young learners.
"If the Supreme Court says diversity is no longer worth actively promoting, then what are ordinary Americans to think?" Amazing piece by @StefanLallinger

The Supreme Court is poised to strike down race-conscious admissions in higher education. How can campus diversity still be achieved? And how can students of color shut out of selective schools still thrive? Great piece by @DeniseASmith74 https://t.co/JGSwlmBbf9
BREAKING: The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of a concrete company that wanted to sue a union because a strike cost them money.
The 8-1 decision means the company, Glacier Northwest Inc., can sue the union over a strike where truck drivers left wet concrete in their trucks.
The one dissenting judge, Ketanji Brown Jackson, argues that the majority is inserting itself into an assessment of labor disputes that is lawfully the purview of the National Labor Relations Board, and that the court is overstepping here. /2
A conflict like Yemen's might appear like lawless chaos. But its rules and norms offer opportunities to promote better governance and respect for rights.
@Ndawsari draws on years of field work to show ways to encourage armed groups to respect rights.
Really proud of my colleague @Ale_VazquezBaur for creating and launching the National Newcomer Network to bring together educators, researchers, and advocates to develop systemic solutions to address newcomer student inequity.
