@genderedpose Sam Smith recently came out as non-binary and they are using they/them pronouns now. This has caused a lot of conversation about the importance of pronouns. The Associated Press, a popular news media outlet, ironically misgendered them throughout their article about this.
@genderedpose This is an interesting article about Kim Petras who is a trans pop artist who is becoming more popular recently. She talks about how now is the time a trans pop artist to become famous and have a real impact on our culture.

@mikeh53049223@kaitlynliu19@genderedpose I think it's definitely internalizing oppression as a defense mechanism. They put other trans women down by competing to "pass" better based on their own insecurities about not being able to pass as cisgender.
@FauciMurphy@genderedpose I think it's a case of reclaiming derogatory words to be empowered by them (ex. people calling themselves "queer"). I don't think the word will ever go away, so trying to eliminate the negative connotation is probably the most effective method of making the word less derogatory.
@genderedpose Recently, many parents have decided to raise their children without constricting gender roles. This article analyzes the benefits and harms of this style of parenting.

@genderedpose This article from the Washington Post asked 10 women to describe what motherhood is in their own words. Many are nontraditional kinds of mothers, and it relates to the relationship between Blanca, Helena, and their "children."

@genderedpose Both Blanca and Helena are not biologically mothers, but they are both different kind of mother figures in the lives of those they love. They help each other become better mothers to their "children."
@genderedpose In their apartment, Stan says to Angel: “You know my life. You see it on every TV show." This brings up the overrepresentation of the straight white male's narrative and the underrepresentation of queer people. This scholarly article analyzes trans representation in the media.
@kaitlynliu19@genderedpose Lulu also calls Electra a slut and Electra reacts very strongly. Lulu is a woman using words that the patriarchy uses to keep women down, perpetuating that narrative.
@kaitlynliu19@genderedpose@bupipedream Joe (the sugar daddy)'s terms for their relationship include him controlling her appearance (“You have to look this good every time I see you.”) and intense sexual acts right on the first date. This is evidence of the hypersexualization of trans people.
@kaitlynliu19@FauciMurphy@mikeh53049223@genderedpose Stan also says “I’m never going to fit in in a place like that.” This is exactly how the trans community didn’t fit into the real world. Stan, a cisgender white straight male, feels uncomfortable because he doesn’t fit into a community, presumably for the first time in his life.
@FauciMurphy@genderedpose It is definitely so important to acknowledge the victim and their story. The trans murder/suicide rate is much higher than in other communities. This article has a short biography of all 18 victims.

@genderedpose He states that their relationship was “his cocoon” from the real world, but it was Electra's cocoon into the real world. He puts the nail in the coffin by saying “This is an act of selfishness and stupidity.” Her owning her body and her gender expression is not a selfish act.
@genderedpose Dick says “I’m in control here” about Electra's gender expression and body in the hotel room. He leaves her because she has surgery and no longer matches his fetish. Electra emphasizes this by asking him “Do you love me or was this all about the sex?”
@FauciMurphy@mikeh53049223@genderedpose This is really heartbreaking because they become hostile towards people who are going through the same hardships that they are.
@mikeh53049223@kaitlynliu19@genderedpose Interestingly, they are invalidating their own chosen families by emphasizing the need for a male, father figure. They cannot fulfill cisgender, hetero families because they aren't cisgender.
