Big news! LIRS is now @globalrefuge. We’ve been welcoming newcomers since 1939, and our new name aims to build a bigger table to serve this mission. 🌏🎉 #GlobalRefuge#WorkOfWelcome
LIRS staff from across the US (& Guatemala!) gathered in San Antonio last week for our 2nd annual all-staff retreat. After three days of thoughtful conversations, strategic planning, & a dance competition for the ages, we are more ready than ever to continue the work of welcome!
Members of the LIRS team walked with Little Amal in Baltimore!
Little Amal is the 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child--her journeys are festivals of art and hope that draw attention to the huge numbers of children fleeing violence and persecution. @walkwithamal
“If you will enjoy a day off this coming Monday, you likely owe thanks to two children of immigrants who helped build the American labor movement and establish the #LaborDay holiday.”
My latest for @baltimoresun:
Labor Day serves as a reminder of the invaluable contributions immigrants make to our workforce. Let’s honor their legacy, and recognize the essential part they can play in tackling the biggest economic challenges we face.

UPDATE: The U.S. Senate failed to bring the #AfghanAdjustmentAct to a vote as it approved the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). As a result, evacuees from #Afghanistan still lack a pathway to lawful permanent residence.

Did you know that refugee employees tend to stay with the same employer for longer than other hires?
It's just one of the many reasons why companies like Pfizer and Unifi Aviation have joined @LIRSorg's "Preferred Refugee Employer" program.

@united I had flight UA285 from Denver to Baltimore cancelled due to a crew-related scheduling disruption after 3 delays and 3 gate changes. How can I receive my full refund?
