Professor of Special Ed & ABA at Temple U. Behavior analyst, skeptic, teacher educator, & autism researcher. #Metascience. Stop Facilitated Communication/S2C!
I’ve decided to abandon Twitter despite the the joy I’ve gotten from #AcademicTwitter. Come find me on Blue Sky instead and let’s connect about science, education, and video games there instead: https://t.co/lPMAMQHs2S
@BronwynHemsley Violates two ethical principles— non-maleficence and beneficence. Spelling to communicate prevents simultaneously promotes harm and prevents benefit.
Thank you to the White House Initiative on Black Americans for coming to Philadelphia to host the Power Up Summit at @templeuniv Secretary Miguel Cardona spent some in our college with our students and staff. #shapingleaders#drivingchange#expandingimpact
To clarify, I have known for some time that I was not a robot. Today it was confirmed that I am a human. No biological exam necessary. Artificial intelligence truly is amazing.
Captcha has confirmed, by way of my ability to click on a soccer ball and parts of a school bus, not only that I am not a robot, but that I am a human. What an amazing time to be alive.
Pioneer and absolute titan of special education, my friend Jim Kauffman, died this morning. Jim was faculty emeritus @UVA, and spent his career promoting and defending specialized education. I’m saddened by his passing but grateful for our friendship. Good night, my friend.
Thank you! @sreesociety was my first academic conference and I have benefited so much from the kindness and mentorship I’ve received from the folks involved in this organization.
“In December 2020, Kevin Plantan’s nightmare began in earnest. On December 15, 2020, when SP was at home performing facilitated communication with one of her aides, she typed out allegations…”
Another life shattered by false allegations made with FC:

Excellent piece on the dangers of FC and need for bioethicists to speak up. It’s not an esoteric issue. FC continues to put innocent people in jail and split up families. Gone? No. It’s growing again, hidden behind new names like “Spelling to Communicate.” https://t.co/0djHr0cQ1v
@AltB56073878@Forbes@steven_aquino It’s difficult to believe the author didn’t see anything about or learn this is just another form of facilitated communication, or that the “miracle” book/movie he cites wasn’t authored by a leading anti-vaxxer. Irresponsible clickbait “journalism” reaching new heights.

@Neuro_Skeptic Not everyone will be happy you’re a productive assistant professor— some of your department colleagues will be upset you’re publishing a lot, getting good teaching evals, & chairing committees. Don’t complain or try talking to them about it. Just find a University job elsewhere.
At least 44 students experienced 20 or more restraints & seclusions during the period covered by the investigation & one student was restrained or secluded at least 144 times, including 99 seclusions lasting over 15 hours in total.
