Thrilled to win the prestigious Sigma Delta Chi award for excellence in sports reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists!

“Mismanagement of the Year” exposed widespread waste & mismanagement among nonprofits founded by Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award winners — some of which spend less than 50¢ of every $1 on actual charity.

But it also cited notable success stories like @JJWatt (99¢ of every $1 to charity), @LarryFitzgerald (fiscal sponsor provides 501c3 support for a small fee) & @EliManning (partnered directly with a hospital). It outlined best practices via @CWTips & other experts. And it presented possible solutions to longstanding issues, which should include better nonprofit education & vetting from the @NFL & @NFLPA.

The series inspired former #WPMOY @AnquanBoldin to cofound @SportForImpact to educate athletes & their families about responsible sports philanthropy.

It has support of NFL VP @TroyVincentSr, a former #WPMOY himself.
