With the recent news that the CBC is losing Hockey Night in Canada, and that Rogers is taking over exclusive broadcast rights, the country is losing one of its most cherished cultural institutions. It didn't have to be like this.
Honestly stunning how many people are not bothered by this and are using it as an opportunity to say "defund the CBC" because they've been brain-rotted to the point of hating anything and everything related to a public broadcaster.
Not a single line in this article about the fact that our provincial government has spend its time in power gutting public education in order to pave the way for this trend.
Reminder: MLB Owners are not your friends
They are going to hammer home that a cap is what the fans want to even the playing field. Don’t let this fool you; these billionaires couldn’t care less about what you or I think. It’s all about maximizing profits. It always has been.
Liberals removed the federal excise tax of 10 cents April 20. They said it would reduce gas prices.
The national average gas price was $1.69/litre.
Today it’s $1.83/litre.
NDP warned this wouldn’t work & oil companies would grab that money.
This failed policy cost $2.4 billion.
Uber’s COO has said that it’s getting “harder to justify” its AI costs because there was no way to show a link between AI spend and any meaningful increase in useful features. This is the first time I’ve seen a company say this directly.

AI is a net negative on humanity, and you can not convince me otherwise. For whatever conveniences it allows, it's not worth the inaccuracies, the environmental waste, or the ethical ramifications related to exchanging expertise and human ingenuity for its supposed efficiency.
Hi. So this is happening a lot these days, and I have to address it.
I believe the below reply to me is Exhibit A on how AI search results have poisoned our collective brains. It's illustrative of a growing societal problem of trusting these search results and treating the hallucinated misinformation as gospel. OK, so here goes:
1) The highlighted stat is inaccurate. It reality, it is SAS 111 FTA to OKC 94 FTA, which is a difference of +17. Not the reported 118-93 = +25. So, that's wrong.
2) Even if it *was* +25, it is not nearly the record as the screenshot claims. For instance, CLE last year was +31 FTA vs. MIA. And +34 in '07 ... and +66 in '09 vs. DET. All four-game series. SAS' FTA lead over OKC is laughably far from the record.
3) OKC literally had a +20 FTA advantage in the PHX four-game series a few weeks ago. Which is more than SAS' ACTUAL mark in this series, +17. So there's that.
To answer your question @StephenLindsey, that is why I haven't written an article about that. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.
Except it's not a brush, it's a plagiarism tool. I know it's sold as making creativity more "accessible" and "democratic", but learning skills isn't always easy and easy isn't always better. I don't mean that we should all suffer for our art, but the process should be important.
Nicolas Winding Refn on AI:
“Having now tried it on something later on that may show here, I really love the creativity. For me, it’s like a brush. And obviously, no one really knows all the implications of what this is going to do and what’s going to happen, but from the perspective of creativity it’s a new invention. And then it’s what you’re going to do with it.”

Whoever jumps to get John on their editorial team will not regret it. theScore has had a slew of supremely talented writers whom they've let go in recent years, and it's a crying shame. Hope he and the other recently laid off bounce back quickly.
Some personal news: I'm among the many people being laid off by Penn Entertainment.
I'm incredibly proud of the work I produced in my 8 years as theScore's senior NHL writer, from in-depth storytelling and sharp analysis to launching, hosting, and producing multiple podcasts/YouTube shows.
A hearty thank-you to anyone who's read, watched, or listened along the way. Ready for whatever comes next! You can reach me via DM or email ([email protected]).
I find the practically orgiastic fervour of our governments to railroad all of this AI infrastructure, to be profoundly disturbing. I've yet to see the case made that any of it will serve to improve the health, prosperity, social well-being & civil liberties of average Canadians.
Guillermo Del Toro receives a long standing ovation after the screening of ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ at the #CannesFilmFestival and says “fuck AI” in his post-screening speech.
Cannes boss Thierry Frémaux responds, “that was the first political statement of the festival”
This devalues actual craft, hard work, & skills of artisans who trained to create these effects - profoundly disrespecting craftspeople who have made his films what they are. They're bespoke. AI just cobbles what already exists. A plagiarism machine. A copy of a copy of a copy
