Growth is more similar beteen ecological related species and adjesent locations. In the last publication of my phd we therefore argue that growth is a usefull indicator for enviromental conditions and ecological relatedness. https://t.co/FD61T1NqmI
Plasticity in growth is closely links to the energy availability of individuals. In the new article from my PhD, we show that energy allocation schemes of individuals could play a major role in the evolution of plasticity in individual growth curves. https://t.co/2b06KD25C8
Announcing this year's break-the-mold paper award! The best paper goes to @JasperCroll and @andrederoos61: The regulating effect of growth plasticity on the dynamics of structured populations, published in Theoretical Ecology (https://t.co/bcYGW8F1CQ) (1/3)
My paper about the ecology of growth curve plasticity is now officially mentioned as the outstanding paper in theoretical ecology (2023) on the webpage of @ESA_Theory. You can read what they had to say about the paper here: https://t.co/hrCHoqK91e
This week @ESA_Theory awarded one of the papers from my PhD the "breaking the mold" award for outstanding paper in theoretical ecology. I am very happy with the book prize from @SFIPress. You can find the paper of me and my co-author @andrederoos61 here: https://t.co/aAUNccCVpR
Congratulations to @JasperCroll and @andrederoos61, winners of @ESA_Theory 2023 Outstanding Paper in Theoretical Ecology! As sponsors of this award, we are delighted to offer our books and SFI swag as prizes for your break-the-mold paper.
@NPilakouta@FunEcology I studied the ecology and evolution of plasricity in growth curves, with a focus on harvested fish stocks.
I would define plasticity as the extend to which environmental factors (like food availability and temperature) affect an induvidual trait or rate (like growth or size)
Straight into elephant demography at @EvoDemo8. @JasperCroll presenting data on how poaching disrupts family groups, with implications for mortality and fecundity (fertility for those of us who spend too much time thinking about humans)
Announcing the 2023 Theory Section Break-the-Mold Paper Award! We aim to award novel and non-conventional ways of theoretical thinking in ecology. Papers published in *2022* are eligible. Submit your nominations here before Apr 10: https://t.co/jGmkGBmFxB
Just before the weekend the third paper of my PhD thesis was published. Herein we explore how optimal harvesting intensity changes with density dependence in growth. With @tobiasvankooten @andrederoos61.

Last Friday I successfully defended my PhD thesis. It was a great day with interesting discussions.
I am ready to continue my way forward in science!

Tomorrow at 11 CET I will publicly defend my PhD thesis entitled "Starving to grow, ecology and evolution of growth curve plasticity". You can attend my defence live or online: https://t.co/PxMuPYrBXG
In two weeks, Jasper Croll from @IBED_UvA will defend his PhD thesis "Starving to grow: The ecology and evolution of growth curve plasticity". The ceremony will be held at De Aula in Amsterdam on January 20th at 11am.
Good luck! 🐟

The second paper of my thesis is published! In this paper I explore how a stochatic version of the von Bertalanffy growth equation can be used to estimate variation in individual growth and bodysize without repeated individual observations. https://t.co/lV7My5WUZo
My abstract for @EvoDemo8 in Paris has been accepted. I will talk about the effects of poaching on the family structure of elephant herds.
I am looking forward to the conference!
