Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?

For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

The Human Rights Council of Pakistan expresses grave concern over the recent verdict in the Toshakhana 2 case involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan @ImranKhanPTI and his wife, Bushra Bibi. In the view of the Council, this verdict is a clear violation of Article 13 of the Constitution of Pakistan, as the same charges have already been tried in Toshakhana 1, and a retrial on identical allegations amounts to double jeopardy.

Furthermore, the fundamental right to a fair trial under Article 10-A has also been violated. The extraordinary haste of the proceedings, the disregard of exculpatory evidence presented by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, and a verdict delivered without fulfilling essential legal requirements indicate that this process was driven by political pressure and malice, rather than the demands of justice.

The Human Rights Council of Pakistan considers this decision to be politically motivated, biased, and contrary to the basic principles of justice. Such actions not only undermine public confidence in the judicial system but also pose a serious threat to democratic values and the rule of law.

The Council demands that:

This decision be subjected to an impartial and independent judicial review

Constitutional guarantees and the principles of a fair trial be fully respected

The suppression of political dissent through judicial proceedings be immediately stopped

We will continue to raise our voice for the protection of justice, the Constitution, and human rights.

Condemnation Statement

The Human Rights Council of Pakistan strongly condemns the shocking incident outside Adiala Jail, where the turban of renowned religious scholar Allama Raja Nasir Abbas @AllamaRajaNasir was forcibly removed through high-pressure water while he stood peacefully in solidarity with the sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
This act is a blatant violation of religious dignity, human rights, freedom of expression, and the right to peaceful assembly—all protected under Pakistan’s Constitution and international human rights law.
We call for immediate accountability for those responsible and urge the protection of religious figures, women, and peaceful protesters. The use of state force to humiliate or intimidate citizens is unacceptable and must end.

تحقیق کی ہے تو پتہ چلا ہے کہ پاکستان میں رانا محمد یونس سے قابل بندہ بھی موجود نہیں ہے۔موصوف ویٹرنری یونیورسٹی کے وائس چانسلر، نارروال یونیورسٹی کے تین سال سے زائد عرصہ سے عارضی وائس چانسلر اور نارووال میں ہی ویٹرنری کالج کے پرنسپل ہیں۔ ویٹرنری یونیورسٹی کی فیکلٹی جنرل کیڈر یونیورسٹی میں وائس چانسلر نہیں لگ سکتی مگر موصوف لگے ہوئے ہیں کیونکہ انکو نارووال کے سیاسی خاندان کی آشیر باد حاصل ہے یہی نہیں اسی یونیورسٹی میں سیاسی آشیر باد پر حسیب سرور نامی شخص تین سال ایڈیشنل رجسڑار رہ چکا ہے۔ ہر سال وائس چانسلر کی تعیناتی کا اشتہار آتا ہے مگر تعیناتی نہیں ہوتی۔ایڈووکیٹ روحیل صبیح کے مطابق 2023 میں عارضی طور پر وائس چانسلر تعینات ہونے والے ڈاکٹر یونس 400 سے زائد افراد کی مبینہ طور پر غیر قانونی تعیناتیاں کر چکے ہیں تعیناتیوں کا اختیار صرف مستقل وائس چانسلر کے پاس ہوتا ہے۔
مریم نواز نے حکومت میں آکر تمام یونیورسٹیز کے وائس چانسلر اور پرو وائس چانسلر بدلے ہیں مگر موصوف کو نہیں بدلا جاسکتا۔ احسن اقبال صاحب کی تقاریر سن لیں تو ان سے زیادہ میرٹ کی باتیں کسی کو نہیں آتیں اور ان کے اپنے ضلع کا احوال آپ کے سامنے ہے۔

Likewise, regarding the delaying tactics being used in the Al-Qadir Trust case, I instruct that legal action be taken, and a hearing date must be secured before leaving the court premises.

I direct Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi to establish a compact, need-based cabinet. The selection of ministers is entirely his prerogative, as I have proposed no names.

To avoid any confusion or miscommunication, all instructions and correspondence concerning the party matters shall be conveyed solely through the Secretary General, Salman Akram Raja.

Lastly, I wish to make it clear that Ahmad Chattha and Bilal Ejaz are my long-standing and loyal companions. They have stood by me with unwavering loyalty and made tremendous sacrifices. I have not issued any orders for their removal.”

"عاصم منیر کی جانب سے پاکستان میں "ہارڈ سٹیٹ" کا جو تصور فروغ دینے کی کوشش کی جا رہی ہے، وہ بالکل غلط ہے۔ ہارڈ سٹیٹ کا اصل مطلب ہے ایسی ریاست جہاں آئین کی بالادستی، قانون کی عملداری، عدل و انصاف کا نظام، اور جمہوری آزادی ہو، جہاں ذاتی مفاد نہیں بلکہ ملک و قوم کا مفاد مقدم ہو۔

تحریکِ انصاف کے دور حکومت میں بہتر پالیسیوں کے باعث خیبرپختونخوا سمیت ملک بھر میں امن قائم ہوا، مگر رجیم چینج کے بعد سے حالات مسلسل بگڑتے جا رہے ہیں۔ میں تین سال سے مسلسل کہتا آیا ہوں کہ ہمیں دانشمندی اور دوراندیشی کا مظاہرہ کرتے ہوئے افغانستان کے ساتھ پرامن انداز میں معاملات آگے بڑھانے چاہییں۔ افغانستان سے کشیدہ صورتحال نہایت تشویشناک ہے۔ نفرت اور تصادم کسی کے مفاد میں نہیں، عوام کے حقیقی نمائندوں کی بنائی ہوئی پالیسیاں ہی دہشتگردی کا دیرپا حل نکال سکتی ہیں۔

میرے خلاف قائم جھوٹے اور بے بنیاد مقدمات کو جان بوجھ کر لٹکایا جا رہا ہے۔ القادر ٹرسٹ کیس میں گزشتہ دس ماہ سے انصاف کا قتل ہو رہا ہے۔ مشکل سے 10 ماہ بعد کیس کی سماعت کی تاریخ ملی، مگر ضمانت کا فیصلہ تاحال تاخیر کا شکار ہے۔ میں تحریکِ انصاف کے تمام سیاسی قائدین، اراکینِ اسمبلی، اور وکلاء کو ہدایت دیتا ہوں کہ اب سے میرے تمام کیسز کی عدالتی کارروائیوں میں باقاعدگی سے شرکت کریں، سماعت کے موقع پر عدالت میں موجود رہیں، اور انصاف کے حصول تک اپنی موجودگی برقرار رکھیں۔ اوپن کورٹ کے کیسز میں شرکت آپ کا قانونی و جمہوری حق ہے۔

تحریکِ انصاف کے دورِ حکومت میں نواز شریف کو جیل میں روزانہ کثیر تعداد میں سیاسی رہنماؤں سے ملاقات کی اجازت تھی، فیملی کو بلا روک ٹوک رسائی حاصل تھی، بلکہ جیل میں دعوتوں تک کا اہتمام کیا جاتا تھا۔ اس کے برعکس آج مجھے مکمل تنہائی میں رکھا گیا ہے۔ اس سے بڑی سیاسی انتقام کی مثال پاکستان کی تاریخ میں نہیں ملتی۔

مجھے جیل مینول کے مطابق بنیادی سہولیات فراہم نہیں کی جا رہیں۔ پچھلے دس مہینوں میں صرف ایک بار میرے بیٹوں سے بات کروائی گئی، وہ بھی تین تین منٹ کے دو مختصر وقفوں سے۔ مجھے ناصرف بنیادی انسانی حقوق سے محروم رکھا جا رہا ہے بلکہ بطور پارٹی لیڈر، اپنے سیاسی ورکرز سے ملاقات کی اجازت بھی نہیں دی جا رہی۔ وکلاء، سیاسی رفقاء اور اہلِ خانہ سے ملاقات میں بھی مسلسل رکاوٹیں ڈالی جا رہی ہیں۔ یہ سراسر بنیادی اور قانونی حقوق کی خلاف ورزی ہے”

“I am a believer in ‘La Ilaha Illallah’ (There is no god but Allah). This declaration liberates a believer from every form of fear and slavery. My life is in the hands of Allah, not in the hands of Asim Munir. Our faith alone is the guarantor of our ‘Haqeeqi Azadi (True Freedom)’, for it grants the strength to break free from the chains of fear.

I continue to be held in solitary confinement in an effort to break me. My personal doctors have not been permitted to examine me for one year. Access to newspapers and television is blocked for weeks at a time. Even family members and lawyers are barred from meeting me. I have not been allowed to meet my political colleagues for a year and a half. My message to Asim Munir is this: no matter how much pressure you put on me, or which of my family members you throw into prison, I will neither bow down nor accept this oppression. I will continue my struggle for true freedom, come what may.

In an attempt to appease the lobby that opposes the current government in Afghanistan, Asim Munir, in his short-sightedness, is destroying the peace that was established in the region during our tenure. Where there should have been a strong relationship, things are being made worse. It grieves me deeply that after decades of hospitality, our Afghan brothers are now being forcibly pushed out of the country. At a time when Afghanistan has been struck by an earthquake, we ought to be helping them, not expelling them.

I direct Ali Amin Gandapur to go to Afghanistan, sit with them, and hold discussions regarding mutual issues and peace and security so that the situation can be prevented from deteriorating further. The sham federal government must answer: if Maryam Nawaz can travel to Japan and Thailand, why should the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa not be able to travel to Afghanistan for peace in his province?

The ongoing military operations, drone strikes, and forced displacements of our own people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are, in reality, an attempt to undermine Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s government that was formed with a public mandate. Ali Amin Gandapur must firmly resist this operation. The people of the province are already devastated by floods. If drone strikes and military operations are not stopped, it will be a grave injustice. Already, many of our police personnel have embraced martyrdom. As long as this operation continues, the hardships of the people will increase, and terrorism will intensify further.

At this moment, the entire country is submerged in floods. People have suffered immense losses because of these floods in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The whole nation must unite to confront this situation. I would surely be conducting fundraising and telethons if I were not in prison. From here, I call upon my nation to contribute generously and wholeheartedly to relief efforts for the assistance of flood victims.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf must also fully participate in the protest against the attack on the political gathering in Balochistan.”
