I often criticized Lindsey Graham. But this weekend, I learned his full story:
- Orphaned young, he adopted & raised his little sister instead of letting her go into the system.
- Grew up dirt poor, racking balls in his parents’ pool hall.
- In search of opportunity, he joined the Air Force. Served 33 years. Retired a Colonel.
- Then spent decades in Congress, earning respect across the aisle.
- Bashed Trump hard in ~2016, then respected the will of the voters, and grew to become a loyal ally.
- Humble. Devoted to his constituents.
- Driven by patriotism (even when misguided). Never in it for the money. Could've cashed in any time like most of his colleagues.
- That Disney trip everyone mocked? Just a good uncle taking his beloved nieces. He smiled through (and ignored) the hate to protect his family.
RIP to a self-made American original.
.@NYCMayor Mamdani’s appointed advisory commission is recommending an 18.2% raise for himself and other elected officials purportedly because of inflation, yet his self-appointed Rent Guidelines Board — which is supposed to consider inflation in setting rents— froze rents for two years.
A question for the mayor:
How is this fair or appropriate?
As New York City celebrated a Knicks championship last night, the men and women of the NYPD were working across all five boroughs to keep people safe.
That included dealing with a relatively small number of people who used celebration as an “excuse” to turn to violence.
Many cops worked long, grueling tours. Many came in on their days off. And many went straight from a long night into the Puerto Rican Day Parade and FIFA watch parties this morning.
To every cop who put themselves at risk to ensure others could celebrate safely: thank you for your noble service.
This city is grateful.
