The show broke away from the comic in S1 so dont cry about it not ending like the comic when the entire show diverges significantly in plot, character motivations & world-building

Records do show he supported the KnowNothing party in his youth. Ill trust most historians over a history teacher who thought the KnowNothings fell apart in 1850

When Booth was 16 he became a delegate from Bel Air to a rally by the Know Nothing Party for Henry Winter Davis, the party's candidate for Congress in the 1854 elections. The party started falling part around 1855 it didnt complete collapse until 1860

@Soldierswoman @_sn_n Booth was involved with the "Know-Nothing" party. He wasn't a Democrat or Republican. It was a American nativist political party that was anti-Catholic, anti-immigrant . It aimed to restrict immigration, limit Catholic political influence, & promote Protestant values
