Elon: Every civilization in the past, [it is maybe counter-intuitive] the more prosperous it becomes, the lower the birth rate. Now, you would think, with prosperity, you would have MORE resources then you would have more kids.
Actually, no. It is a historical fact that the longer a civilization has been prosperous, the worse its birth rate got. And this was an issue even in ancient Rome.
Like, in 50 B.C. there's like, actually... like we still have the Roman Laws that were written. They passed laws to try to improve the birth rate of Roman Citizens in 50 B.C.
This is a fundamental civilizational challenge that has been encountered many times before. It is not something that just happened recently. It occurred throughout the cycle of civilization.

You can fit all of the humans on earth into the city of New York, on one floor! Or, if you fly across the country, and you look down and you had to drop a ball on someone's head, would you succeed? And you would not.
The density of people is very low. There are very few people on earth. It's only if you live in a very dense city environment that it seems that Earth is densely populated. And it is only densely populated on about 0.1% of the surface area. So, I at least want to bring it to conscious awareness so that people don't think that Earth is overpopulated, when in fact, the Earth is underpopulated. This is true.

HAHA, he and I are not the best of friends. Maybe the real distinction is not whether someone is right or left? But is someone an expansionist or an extinctionist? (laughter) HAHA, yes, he (Gates) has some issues, this is true.
With any given civilization, it's not going to be exactly steady. With any given civilization, it's either going to be growing, or declining. So you can kind of divide any person's actions into: Are they expansionist or are they extinctionist?
Obviously, I am super expansionist. I think that is a far more exciting future than going extinct!
Elon: You know, it sounds obvious when you say it like that! But I still run into a lot of people who think Earth is overpopulated, so I am kind of hammering this point. We are not overpopulated, we are underpopulated.
I am in favor of, we need to have babies by whatever means, whether it is IVF, surrogacy, or whatever the case may be. That can certainly help, but we just can't go extinct. I think humanity is great and we should get bigger! I think we should expand the scope and scale of consciousness so we can better understand the nature of the universe. That is the foundation of my philosophy.

My Thoughts
A one-bedroom apartment. South Burbank, California. $200 dollars in the bank. School loans to pay off, a part-time job, and full-time (my second-degree) nursing school. This person also had a sweet little babe that she used to sneak to class with her. This is me. Yes, me, Gail Alfar, and I do not regret one second of this.
Five kids later, and I'd do it again. Men and ladies, there is no bigger joy than to have kids. For anyone who says they are a bother... they really are the opposite.
Little rugrats, they were the gems in my life.
Now mostly grown up, they have their own paths for their lives, and may they bless this crazy world!!
For you, dear reader, dear human on X...I have friends who are in differing situations and some truly cannot physically have kids, they are sweet blessings, beyond description.
But for those who are able, and who are on the fence... you CAN do it, you are unstoppable, go for it and have kids.

Actually, no. It is a historical fact that the longer a civilization has been prosperous, the worse its birth rate got. And this was an issue even in ancient Rome.
Like, in 50 B.C. there's like, actually... like we still have the Roman Laws that were written. They passed laws to try to improve the birth rate of Roman Citizens in 50 B.C.
This is a fundamental civilizational challenge that has been encountered many times before. It is not something that just happened recently. It occurred throughout the cycle of civilization.

The density of people is very low. There are very few people on earth. It's only if you live in a very dense city environment that it seems that Earth is densely populated. And it is only densely populated on about 0.1% of the surface area. So, I at least want to bring it to conscious awareness so that people don't think that Earth is overpopulated, when in fact, the Earth is underpopulated. This is true.

HAHA, he and I are not the best of friends. Maybe the real distinction is not whether someone is right or left? But is someone an expansionist or an extinctionist? (laughter) HAHA, yes, he (Gates) has some issues, this is true.
With any given civilization, it's not going to be exactly steady. With any given civilization, it's either going to be growing, or declining. So you can kind of divide any person's actions into: Are they expansionist or are they extinctionist?
Obviously, I am super expansionist. I think that is a far more exciting future than going extinct!

I am in favor of, we need to have babies by whatever means, whether it is IVF, surrogacy, or whatever the case may be. That can certainly help, but we just can't go extinct. I think humanity is great and we should get bigger! I think we should expand the scope and scale of consciousness so we can better understand the nature of the universe. That is the foundation of my philosophy.

My Thoughts
A one-bedroom apartment. South Burbank, California. $200 dollars in the bank. School loans to pay off, a part-time job, and full-time (my second-degree) nursing school. This person also had a sweet little babe that she used to sneak to class with her. This is me. Yes, me, Gail Alfar, and I do not regret one second of this.
Five kids later, and I'd do it again. Men and ladies, there is no bigger joy than to have kids. For anyone who says they are a bother... they really are the opposite.
Little rugrats, they were the gems in my life.
Now mostly grown up, they have their own paths for their lives, and may they bless this crazy world!!
For you, dear reader, dear human on X...I have friends who are in differing situations and some truly cannot physically have kids, they are sweet blessings, beyond description.
But for those who are able, and who are on the fence... you CAN do it, you are unstoppable, go for it and have kids.
