The sadistic sex killer who has this week been sentenced to 14 years in prison in Hungary for murdering the American nurse Mackenzie Michalski from Portland, Oregon is Lorcan Murphy (38, full name, Lorcan Tadgh Murphy) from Killiney, Dublin, pictured below.

His 14-year sentence is "without parole" meaning he will be 50 when he is released in 2038 (14 years less two years already in custody). The Hungarian courts have ordered that he be deported to Ireland upon his release.

There was no mitigation in Hungary for Murphy being a foreigner whose sentence in a high security prison "may be harder than for a native". Irish courts take note!

His trial heard disturbing details about his crime which suggest this wasn't the 38-year old's first rodeo, and there may be other living victims out there.

Hungarian law has stopped his previous identification. Even USA media has avoided naming Murphy. But today, Mediahuis, Ireland's biggest press group has decided to ignore that ruling in the public interest.

Hopefully Twitter will adopt a similar approach, but if this account goes quiet for a while, you'll know why!
