I have seen folks on here attempt dangerous revisionist gymnastics in recounting the violence, savagery and destitution of this period, completely stripping away this crucial, now declassified historical context.

Whether it’s intentional or accidental, that revisionism is a profoundly nefarious act of political gaslighting.

If you’re over 30, you have a responsibility to NOT trap our young people in a vicious cycle of inherited hatred based on a version of history that keeps being acid washed of its most important facts.

One key fact is this: Jamaica’s decades long struggle with gun violence and deep political division is because she fell victim to a high-stakes proxy war between the world’s greatest superpowers. It was a cruel era of geopolitics that, as Clyde notes, played out on our streets as our internal politics were brutally weaponized.

Jamaicans must close ranks and refuse to be divided & turned against each other. We are already small & vulnerable as it is. Rival factions will make us smaller, weaker and far more exposed.
