TODAY, May 20, 2025 : President William Ruto is presiding over the #MukuruHandOver, delivering keys to 1,080 households in Nairobi’s Mukuru kwa Njenga under Kenya’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP). This Phase 1 milestone transforms lives, moving families from informal settlements to modern homes.

Project Highlights

- Scale: Part of 13,248 units across 56 acres, offering bedsitters, 1- and 2-bedroom units for ~110,000 Mukuru residents.

- Affordability : Rent-to-own model—bedsitters priced at KSh 640,000, with monthly payments of KSh 3,896 (including services). The government subsidizes a 10% deposit for low-income earners.

- Impact: Replaces flood- and fire-prone shacks with safe, dignified homes featuring elevators, modern drainage, and sewer systems.

-Safety : Designed to prevent disasters like the 2011 Sinai fire tragedy.
-Jobs : Created over 3,000 local jobs, contributing to 160,000 nationwide through AHP.
