Georgia Tann, an American child trafficker, exploited her role as a social worker to place kidnapped children for adoption on the black market over a 30-year period.
Georgia Tann employed a range of strategies to obtain children. She would often coerce or deceive birth parents, particularly poor single mothers, into giving up their children under false pretenses, using threats of legal action and other manipulative tactics.
She targeted young children, who were then sold to wealthy families, often subjected to abuse, and in some cases, murdered.
Among the children affected was the future legendary pro-wrestler Ric Flair.
The Tennessee Children's Home Society, where Tann operated, was closed following a state investigation into numerous cases of adoption fraud in 1950.
However, Tann died of uterine cancer before the investigation's findings were made public.
