@johnjlindsley Very well put (one false move on this and you will be branded as an irredeemable racist!)
I think it’s no coincidence this debate has come at a time when the identity politics of the last decade feels to some to be imbalanced; feels like a reactionary moment, not a reasoned one.
@soniasodha@AmandaPCraig Of course there is a link; how would countries be named after their people, otherwise (eg Angeland)? It doesn’t mean this issue in 21st C is dogmatically rigid, but to claim there is no link is frankly utterly unhinged, and helps no one.
@soniasodha@AmandaPCraig I’d say it’s just as stupid to wholesale ignore ethnicity (biology, in the gender analogy) when discussing nationality. Happy to help
@soniasodha@AmandaPCraig Not at all, I just think this is highly analogous to the gender debate, touching as it does on self-identity and biology within the same definition. But heigh-ho, that’s incredibly stupid of me.
@DangleSpanners@VPointon ‘Bollocks
No one is stopping someone claiming Womanhood, you just don’t have the right to tell others they aren’t a woman because of their chromosomes’
@soniasodha@AmandaPCraig ‘Her transphobia is in denying that there is such a thing as being a woman in a way that doesn’t relate purely to biology. According to her men can’t be women. It’s properly grim.’
@leftrestoration@Tom_Rowsell Just making it up based on vibes, and having someone who has put the time in to actually study the area in depth. Most would reevaluate or modify their opinion. Given the ‘left’ moniker, I’m imagining you’ll dig in further.
@PWestoff Yep, straight from the Derrida deconstructionist play book. A worn-out, useless idea at the time; as a contemporary ideology, truly disasterous.
@ShriCivilian You’ve decided to go out to bat for the ethnic replacement of my people by: denying it, minimising it, justifying it as revenge. And you’ve done so by being unable to comprehend graphs, symbols and words. And people wonder why racism is on the rise?
@ShriCivilian Again, another lie.
I mentioned your country in the subjunctive tense, to contextualise the personal dimension to your homeland changing in the future. You brought up Empire. So that was a lie wasn’t it.
@ShriCivilian Why bring up Empire then!? FUCK YOU’RE SO THICK
You’re an intellectual coward, as well as a deeply deeply stupid man. You bring nothing of worth to anyone or anywhere. Kindly go fuck yourself 👋
@ShriCivilian There is no philosophy on earth that justifies punishing sons for the sins of fathers. But always glad to hear your presence here is a form of parasitical revenge.
A disgusting form of collective punishment. I don’t imagine you can comprehend why, if you can’t even read a graph.
@ShriCivilian No, I will not STFU you cretin.
If you can even understand it, this graph shows the white British population’s ethnic minority status within several decades. Britain was 97%, not 81% white when I was born ffs. Do you even understand what a trend is?
Let me guess… ‘who cares’
@ShriCivilian ‘Most capital cities are diverse’
It’s not necessarily your fault you’re so ignorant, but the fact you clearly won’t question the self-evident bollocks you choose to believe is.
