Update: reading the comments of the original youtube video, it seems that only some European countries have the EU version, while others have the US version. Commentators from Austria and Germany report having the EU version, while Croatia, Netherlands and UK report the US one.

@StarfleetDesign Can someone with knowledge of CGI and rendering give an explanation of why the modern renders look better? Because BSG was already made and released in true HD back in 2003. Given the same amount of pixels, why does a render from 2023 look better? Lighting? Advances in…what?

@Warrandpeace01 @gaghyogi49 @TrekCore What other way could be used expect this, cropping the image, to fit a box-shaped frame into a much more narrow, horizontal frame? I don’t see any other practical way even with the ”tech” we have now.

@shawk670 @Vincornelis @gaghyogi49 Where did you read that they rescanned it in 4K? As far as I know they just used the HD (2K) 2011 remaster. In this interview they say that they tweaked what I’m assuming is the 2011 master only very slightly.

@BetterCallWho @rafeski_ @LukeFlux1 @bbcdoctorwho @billiepiper Yeah. AI upscaling wasn’t even around in 2013 when the Blu-rays were released. Or maybe some early version of it had been invented but it wasn’t until about five years ago AI upscales started popping up as I recall.

@NanLawson Might have something to do with that back in the days of CRT TV, a lot programmes had natively smoother motion. 50i is much closer to 50p than 25p for example. For most of their lives, they have been watching fluid motion on interlaced CRT screens.

@ArtofTrek Yes! It works for Doctor Who as well! They’ve revisited old 60s style Tardises/sets/villains several times, staying truthful to the design, only changing the lighting and cinematography. The prime example of this is the 2017 episode ”Twice Upon a Time”.
