As of today, we lost 85 lives to homicide in KC. A breathtaking number but a 26% reduction from last year when we were at 115 lives lost to homicide on July 26, 2023. Much more work ahead. Collaboration works.

Promising news:
KCMO has had a 25% reduction in homicides this year compared to this day last year. Other notable declines are showing in Independence, LS & Raytown.
I’m encouraged by those numbers but also our collaboration with community and police through SAVeKC.

Senator Jean Carnahan was all Missourian. She was stoic, pragmatic, intelligent, tough and kind. When the state needed a leader, she stepped forward accepting the challenge even though she was facing an unimaginable grief. Jean and her brand of politics will be missed.
