I enhanced the contrast to bring out detail. The front appendages clearly resemble antennae arising from the head — supporting this as an insect, not a tick.

Dana, I hear your concern. This is most likely a beetle. Ticks have 8 legs, all from the underside of the cephalothorax, and no antennae. In your image, 6 legs emerge from the thorax, and 2 appendages arise from the head—antennae, typical of insects.
