When they first brought him in, he was just a 4-month-old puppy who couldn’t even open his mouth to eat.
But his tail still wagged.
He still tried to kiss every person who came near him.
Shelter staff named him Squish, and everyone loved him. But no matter what the vets tried, nothing helped. They assumed an infection from a dog bite had warped his face. Antibiotics failed. He grew weaker. Eventually, they made the heartbreaking decision to schedule his euthanasia.
Before his final day, they sent him for X-rays just to be sure.
What they found changed everything.
Squish hadn’t been bitten.
He had multiple skull and jaw fractures, likely from blunt trauma. Scar tissue had fused his jaw, stopping it from growing or opening. He wasn’t sick. He was broken. And he needed surgery.
But no one wanted to adopt a “deformed, dying” puppy.
No one wanted to take on the cost.
Once again, he was out of time.
Then fate stepped in. This time, it was wearing scrubs.
Vet intern Danielle Boyd took him home for “just one night,” so he wouldn’t die in a cage. That night, Squish curled up in her arms and slept peacefully, as if he had finally found safety. By morning, she knew something for sure:
He was not leaving her home. Ever.
Another vet, Eileen Heldmann, also refused to let him go. She performed a complex surgery that removed damaged bone, a tooth, and even one eye. For the first time, Squish could open his mouth and live without pain.
And then it happened.
For the first time in his life…
He picked up a tennis ball.
Danielle cried. Everyone did. From that moment on, he started winning. He could eat on his own. He ran. He cuddled. He collected toys like trophies.
He didn’t care that he looked different.
He was alive. He was loved.
And the craziest part?
Two days before she met Squish, Danielle had lost her own dog.
She saved him.
He healed her.
Fate didn’t just save Squish’s life. It brought two broken hearts together.
Today, Squish is happy, spoiled, and loved beyond measure.
He may look different…
But his joy is unforgettable.
Every soul deserves a second chance. ❤️

Open for viewing only on Saturday and Sunday between 1.30pm to 4pm. No appointment necessary🐶🏡
Lovely Beagle aged 10.
Claire is a very loving and affectionate dog. She is friendly and won the hearts of many of our staff and volunteers since being in our care. She is a typical beagle so is very food motivated and can be very cheeky! We do recommend that the potential owners do research on the breed before applying.
During her time here she has been socialised with other dogs, she does like other dogs and was paired with one in a kennel recently so we do feel she can be rehomed with another dog – subject to a successful dog meet.
Due to Claire coming to us as a stray we have no history on her therefore we suggest a home with children 12+ – subject to a successful meet.
Applications that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge.

🆘URGENT HELP NEEDED🆘
It’s been a tough day everyone with over 6 cries for help from rescuers with dogs in desperate situations.
How do we decide who to help and who to save.
Ideally we would just say yes take all but knowing we have all the bills which follows means we have to raise to save 😞
So we will just keep asking for help and save as many as we can 💔
Our first one is this young girl who has been found not only chained up but in such a remote area it’s just so so lucky someone came across her.
We urgently need to raise funds for her and get her funded, if anyone can help even with 50p or £1 it would literally change these dogs fate and save their lives.
If you can help our first girl please use Ref GIRL:

Charley is a 7 year old Beagle x JRT who has found herself in our care through no fault of her own. She is a lovely lady who would love to have direct access into a secure garden with a 6ft fence, especially as she would like to practice her recall before being let off-lead anywhere.
Charley would like to be the only dog in the home, but could make friends on her walks, as long as she is introduced slowly.
She is able to live with children aged 14 years and over as she does love people, but can be unsure of unfamiliar people approaching at times. - @DT_Glasgow

This shelter is currently open to Visitors from Thursday to Sunday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. No appointment needed!! We would love to find a home for Sandy who was found as a stray. Sandy is a seven-year-old Staffie-cross found on the streets and so not a lot is known about her.
While at Bleakholt, we have learnt that Sandy loves walking and exploring! Sandy is not the best with other dogs so due to this she would need a home with a pet-free environment and the staff feel she would suit a home with older teenagers.

This lovely boy was brought into kennels after being found roaming as a stray. He is believed to be an American bulldog cross, his name is Chase & he is 1 year old, born 1/3/23. Chase has been impounded in kennels before but sadly this time his owner failed to come & reclaim him.
Chase is always clean in his kennel which is a good indicator that he is housetrained. He is a large dog & is strong on the lead so will require lead training & a capable handler. Chase is not good with other dogs & must be rehomed as the only pet.
He knows basic commands such as sit & paw . #dogs #Leeds #Bradford #AmericanBulldog #England #Adoptdontshop #PetCrisisUK #animals #pets

In the UK a stray dog becomes the property of the council after just 7 days. The dog can then be sent to a rescue shelter or euthanised if local shelters are full. Rescue shelters across the UK are full. Councils continue to grant new licences to breed.
Please share wherever you are so we can reach someone that is in a position to help✅
Please adopt or foster a dog from a registered charity or just share to help.
I am not linked to this pound, I am sharing to help find the owner or a rescue shelter space.

🆘️🆘️🆘️🆘️
It's that time of the month when we need to pay our UK kennel bill.
Each month, we are short and each month we struggle and we appeal , unfortunately, this month is no different.
At the moment we have 20 dogs in kennels who depend on the amazing kennel staff keeping them fed, exercised and giving them their daily cuddles. I honestly can't tell you enough how amazing the girls and boys at kennels are. Recently, they also not just hosted our open day but organised and supplied all the food out of their own pockets.
We are so lucky that our dogs are so well looked after, and nothing is too much trouble.
BUT WE DO HAVE TO PAY OUR BILL AND WE ARE ALREADY LATE AS USUAL
THIS MONTH WE HAVE MANAGED TO SAVE A FEW HUNDRED MORE THAN PREVIOUS MONTHS TO PAY OUR BILL BUT WE ARE STILL SHORT BY £1513.
PLEASE PLEASE CAN I ASK AS MANY OF YOU AS POSSIBLE TO HELP
Honestly the constant worry is draining but you all keep this wonderful rescue going and without you, we couldn't do what we do for the dogs 🐾💕
Thank you x
