On September 11, 2001, FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller had just finished his shift. He was heading home to his wife and five kids, and to golf with his brothers.

Then a plane hit the North Tower.
He turned around, grabbed his gear, and ran nearly two miles through the closed Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel toward the towers. He never came home. He was 34.

His family turned that last run into the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which still helps the families of fallen first responders and injured veterans.

When the road stopped him, he kept going.
