Beyond entertainment, our culture of "impressing people" drives much overconsumption and GHG emissions, wrecking the #climate. Sheer population numbers aren't the greatest threat, rather it's the number of people who can afford and are encouraged to consume far beyond necessity.
Rising atmospheric CO₂ may already be directly producing measurable physiological changes in humans. Average blood bicarbonate (buffers CO₂ and maintains blood pH) increased about 7%, parallel to the rise in #climate CO₂.

Our sociological failures to prevent CO2 pollution may eventually lead to catastrophic ecoregion losses from #climate change. Population decline could then be drastic: perhaps within a few generations, possibly leading to human extinction.
#Climate crumbling is mostly us: Picketty found 10% of the population create 45% of the pollution. ~800 million of us build concrete and steel buildings, drive internal combustion cars, fly in airplanes, eat beef, cook on gas stoves or charcoal fires...

Climate tends to crumple: oceans, carbon and water cycles, sea level changes. Eventually an ecoregion (say, the Western Corn Belt) can rapidly lose viability and collapse. Land use (ag, grazing, logging) can accelerate the process.

@TPCarney Yeah, whatever "scientist" said that must misunderstand what Picketty found: 10% of emitters create 45% of pollution. A reduced population of those "high polluters" could be helpful though.

CO2 isn't the root cause of climate crumpling and ecosystem collapse; it only generates its effects. Ultimately, sociology will be the cause; the human habits and interactions in society, individually and at large.

The media is more complicit in climate change than most realize: first it blames disasters on "climate change" instead of "too much CO2 in the atmosphere". Second its business depends on advertising to get people to consume, leading to overdonsumption.
