@florianederer@sndurlauf@ikuziemko I'm not very excited about it either I will admit. Maybe I'll get the book, but I've tried to get into it several times without success.
Nil nil is just a tough sell
103 years ago today, Texans struck oil on university lands. Santa Rita No. 1 now rests on the Forty Acres as a monumental symbol of the discovery that shaped us. It reminds us to carry forward the ambition and determination that define the Longhorn spirit. Hook ’em!
PICARD: Data, shields up
DATA: Brilliant! Shields can reduce damage we sustain. Not immunity. Not hubris. Just prudence. It's not precaution—it's strategy.

WORF: HULL BREACHES ON NINE DECKS
DATA: Here's what happened: you told me to raise shields, and I didn't
@asymmetricinfo@tracewoodgrains As noted elsewhere the alternative was Crockett.
I think many primary voters preferred him to Crockett genuinely rather than out of a calculation about the general
@asymmetricinfo@tracewoodgrains I think many people on the left in Texas genuinely like Talarico, and not for strategic reasons. There is an argument that primary voters should be strategic, but I don't think they are.
@timothyjlayton Just confirming, I think in that world we likely are still different than humanities in important ways. I suspect business will retain its value but I'm not very confident in that prediction
@paulnovosad I'm not sure why they do this or what the constraints are. It's just a weird problem to have a test that is screening for English PhDs, Econ, History, Engineering etc (I actually don't know which sciences use GRE primarily instead of the subject tests)
We are delighted that our graduate student, Virna Vidal Menezes, has been selected as a Spencer dissertation fellow from the National Academy of Education.
