You should make a part two and I really think Ghost's Mom shouldn't have to see her kid stealing. It would break her so props for that.

@JasonReynolds83 We've started a Jason Reynolds unit at my alternative school because my students really resonate with your writing. I have Ghost, Long Way Down, and All-American Boys and would love more.
I don’t know who’s in physical school right now, but I have a class set of Look Both Ways, and a class set of Lu to give away. Cleaning out my closets. So many books. Let me know.
Pledge to be more inclusive in your classroom! What a great way to spread the word! Your kiddos can also pledge to stop using the R-word. Spread the Word to End the Word!

"As we work to better educate ourselves about long-ignored national histories, though, we often miss something right under our noses: local history. Students must learn the truth about their own communities."

A1: Students went on a virtual tour of Auschwitz during remote learning. It seemed like they got a lot out of it. I plan on using @ThingLink and more 360 degree videos next year. I would love to hear some more suggestions though. #sschat
Q1: What sorts of virtual field trips have you done (if any)? What does the ideal virtual field trip have?

@NLessaris Are you using Howard Zinn's original book or is there another resource by him specifically made for kiddos that I'm unaware of? Either way, what a great resource to deconstruct/construct/reconstruct your history class around!
@AshleyBolin_ @dr_s_bertrand This is a great goal! Teaching students at a young age about diversity and equity can only help in the long run. Bringing conflict into the forefront of education is one of the only ways to bring about change. #tch407su2020
A3: My goal is to build SEL curriculum into each of my lessons and to create an educational environment that promotes democracy. I want to include more voices and perspectives from my students, community, and beyond. #tch407su2020
@Sanders_redbird @dr_s_bertrand This is such a message teachers (especially history teachers) need to get behind. The question of "who's story is not being told?" is one that I ask myself often in trying to make curriculum. I also find the the LGBTQ+ community is often unrepresented in curriculum. #tch407su2020
@msherrillteach I have a pretty diverse population of students and they really enjoy @JasonReynolds83's books. The House on Mango Street, The Breadwinner, The March series, and The Color of My Words have been big hits in my Reading class as well. #tch407su2020
A2: 3 resources come to mind: @Tolerance_org is a organization that creates quality lessons and PD articles about diversity and equity. @ChoicesProgram and @SHEG_Stanford are 2 history resources that provide lessons that promote diversity and equity in SS classrooms
