His name is Luca Rossi. He writes the Refactoring newsletter for 170,000 engineers and managers around the world.

In February this year he started building his own note app. He called it Tolaria.

Here is the idea.

Your notes are plain markdown files. They sit in a folder on your laptop. The folder is a git repository. That is it.

You open Tolaria and the app reads your folder. You write. The file saves. Git tracks the change. You can open the same files in any text editor on the planet. You can push the folder to GitHub if you want. You can stop using Tolaria tomorrow and lose nothing.

Then comes the part nobody else does.

Tolaria ships with an AGENTS file in your vault. Claude Code reads it. Codex CLI reads it. Gemini CLI reads it. Any coding agent can now read your notes, edit your notes, search your notes, and remember things between sessions.

Your second brain becomes the memory of your AI.

No accounts. No subscriptions. No cloud dependencies.

It works on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Built with Tauri, so it is small and fast. AGPL-3.0 license. Free and open source.

Four months in, 13,100+ stars. 921 forks. Luca still pushes most of the commits himself.
