🚨WOW!!!

A Nashville TN police officer is being hailed as a hero for talking a man off the edge of a bridge... not with force or with tactics... but with a hug, and four words:

"I love you, bro."

Bodycam caught the ENTIRE thing.

The man stepped back from the edge and broke down in tears, hugging him. ❤️

His name is Lieutenant Mike Hotz of the Metro Nashville Police Department.

On July 23rd, a man stood on the edge of the Victory Memorial Bridge above the Cumberland River, livestreaming, saying he planned to jump.

Lt. Hotz didn't rush him.

He walked up calm and said: "Hey man, my name's Mike. Can I just holler at you?"

No demands.
No lectures.
Just two human beings talking.

"I just want to help you talk through this... this worst day of your life."

Here's what most people don't know:

Mike Hotz is a COMBAT VETERAN.

He says he's lost count of the brothers he served with overseas who battled suicidal thoughts. He wasn't reading from a script. He KNEW that pain.

The man cried. Several times.

Then Hotz made him a promise: "I'm not gonna try nothing crazy. I promise you to the Lord himself. Can I shake your hand?"

The man took his hand.

He stepped away from the edge.

And that handshake became a HUG.

"We're here to love you, bro. We're here to love you. I love you."

And when it was over, when the man was safe with counselors, Hotz quietly stepped away from everyone... and PRAYED. He thanked God for putting him in the right place at the right time.

This same officer built Nashville's ONEbox program, putting overdose reversal kits in 500+ locations across the city. The DEA just honored him for it.

Saving lives isn't what he does. It's who he IS.

His message to all of us: have the uncomfortable conversations. Ask people how they're REALLY doing.

GOD BLESS Lt. Mike Hotz and every officer who runs toward the hurting.

The challenge offered a glimpse into the incredible strength and endurance required of the real-life medic under battlefield conditions.

In reality, Corporal Desmond Doss—a devout Seventh-day Adventist and conscientious objector who refused to carry a weapon—performed one of the most remarkable acts of courage in military history during the 1945 Battle of Okinawa. Over the course of roughly 12 hours, Doss repeatedly entered the battlefield under heavy enemy fire to rescue wounded soldiers.

Using a makeshift rope system, he lowered injured men down the 40-foot Maeda Escarpment, reportedly returning to the danger zone again and again while praying, “Lord, please help me get one more.” His actions saved approximately 75 lives and earned him the Medal of Honor, making him the first conscientious objector in U.S. history to receive the nation’s highest military award.

I’ve been thinking (& panicking) a lot about something I just read in Tim Keller’s “The Reason for God.”

He described how new converts sometimes go off the deep end, railing against public education, the Democratic Party, Hollywood, etc. and end up sounding intolerant and self-righteous.

I read this and felt seen & not in a good way.

He said that kind of fanaticism doesn’t come from too much gospel… it comes from not enough of it. From slipping into moralism instead of resting in grace.

Although A LOT has changed since 2008.

Mostly, Education and the left have moved in a direction that feels genuinely more radical. I don’t think a healthy distrust of those institutions is fanaticism anymore,

BUT

Here’s what scares me: I am terrified of becoming that person.

The one who starts measuring her spiritual temperature by how loudly she opposes the enemies.

The one who confuses conviction with superiority.

The one who forgets that the moment I start feeling cleaner than the people I’m criticizing, I’ve already drifted from the Cross.

I want to be against tribalism.

Against fanaticism directed at anything or anyone other than becoming a humble servant of God.

Self-righteousness has to be killed daily, or it will quietly take the wheel.

History is full of people who started with truth and ended up worshipping their own rightness.

I refuse to be one of them.

But I also refuse to stay quiet, so I have my work cut out.

I vow to tell the truth even when it is uncomfortable but I pray I stay soft and humble, knowing that sometimes I will fail.

I pray to keep the gospel bigger than any politics, bigger than any fears, bigger than any need to be right.

… and for those interested in this fantastic and still shockingly relevant book, here is my favorite line so far:

The church is “a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints.”

Come as you are. Leave whole and forgiven.

And if you don’t come and don’t follow the narrow path, that is okay too. I still love you and so does God.

He is just there, waiting to make your life a whole lot better when you are ready.

Just 13 days later, Nathan and Betty Figgers, a humble couple from Quincy, Florida, saw the story on the news.

They already had a daughter, but when they saw that tiny boy… they knew they had to do something.

They brought him home.

His childhood wasn’t easy. Kids bullied him, calling him “trash baby.” The words cut deep.

Years later, he sought out his biological mother—only to learn she was battling serious addiction.

He never saw her again.

“The people who raised me are my real parents. They gave me love… and a new life.”

When Freddie was 9, his dad bought him a broken $25 Macintosh computer. Freddie took it apart, fixed it using pieces from a radio—and it worked.

That’s when his love for technology was born.

By 13, he was repairing computers for the local government.

At 15, he launched Figgers Computers.

He built his first systems in his parents’ living room.

He invented medical devices so doctors could remotely monitor patients.

At 19, he sold one invention for $2.2 million.

He even designed GPS shoes to help track his father, who had Alzheimer’s.

By 25, Freddie held five patents and had developed over 80 software programs.

But he never forgot where he came from.

Today, he runs a foundation that provides scholarships, emergency aid, and food for the homeless.

“I started it with my own money. You can be successful and lose your soul—I don’t want that.

I want to make a difference. What you give always comes back.

And there’s no greater reward than knowing you’re doing good.”

From being thrown away… to building a legacy with purpose.

Freddie Figgers’ story proves: Where you start doesn’t define how far you can go.

There are many who stereotype the homeless as junkies and miscreants. The truth is many are there because of trauma. Met a wonderful sister today I will call Jay. She broke down crying after I asked if she was okay sitting in the hot sun. I asked her how she got to Skid Row. In my asking, I was looking to find out if she had been dumped or just came from another part of the state or country.

The answer I got was heartbreaking. As if she needed to get something off her chest. She told me several years ago, in the span of two weeks, her daughter was murdered, her mother passed as they were planning her funeral and on the day of her daughter’s service her grandmother passed. I knew she was telling the truth. Not one muscle in her face moved as a went silent for a second. But tears flowed down as if someone barely turned on a faucet. It was like her tears just burst through the numbness.

She was never the same and turned to crack to escape. In just a few short months, it became the center of her world. She lost everything. She asked me to pray for her. I did. She said she wanted help. The rest of this story is between her, me and God.

I have heard many origin stories in skid row. Yes there are people there who completely screwed up in life. Then there are those who life kicked them in the gut.

This is why patience is so importance with many on the street. Please pray for Ms. Jay.
